Abstract:
A steel cord according to this invention comprises two core wires and five outer wires each having a diameter larger than that of each core wire and integrally twisted on the core wires, wherein a strand constituted by the five outer wires and the two core wires has an oblong cross-section.
Abstract:
A metallic cord for the reinforcement of elastomers has a 4+3 construction wherein the diameter of each filament ranges from 0.35 to 0.50 mm. The lay length of the four filaments in the core may be infinity. A pneumatic tire has a belt structure of at least two radially overlapped layers of elastomeric materials reinforced with metallic cords, each metallic cord of at least one of the layers being the 4+3 metallic cord.
Abstract:
A high-elongation composite cord used for reinforcing a rubber composite such as a wheel tire and a conveyor belt. It is made by twisting a plurality of strands each made by twisting a plurality of brass-plated steel filaments and monofilaments of organic fiber. Before twisting the cord, monofilaments of organic fiber are put in the gaps formed between the adjacent strands so as to prevent fluidized rubber from penetrating into a center core formed in the cord after the cord has been covered with rubber. The monofilaments should have a diameter small enough not to protrude from a circle circumscribing the cord and large enough to close the gaps between the adjacent strands.
Abstract:
A pneumatic vehicle tire including a carcass, particularly a radial carcass, a tread, and a belt-like reinforcement formed of at least two cord plies radially superimposed one above the other. At least one of the plies has rubberized metallic cord elements, and the other suitably has non-metallic cord elements. The cord elements cross each other from ply to ply, and the width of at least one cord ply is approximately equal to the width of the tread. The metallic cord elements, which particularly are made of brass-plated steel wire, further comprise a core and a mantle of wire, with the mantle including several twisted individual wires of equal size. The metallic cord elements in the cord ply comprise a core of a single wire filament, and a mantle comprising at least three single wire filaments. The mantle wire filaments respectively have a part which radially engages the wire filament of the core. The diameter of the wire filament of the core is smaller than the diameter of the mantle wire filament, which amounts at most to 0.28 mm. The center-to-center distance of adjacent mantle filaments is greater than the diameter of the mantle wire filaments.
Abstract:
A metallic reinforcing cord structure suitable for reinforcing elastomeric articles characterized by a high compression modulus which increases resistence to buckling and fatigue failure and by improved adherence between the core and the elastomeric article in which it is embedded is disclosed. The cord comprises a core consisting of two equal diameter brass plated steel wires and an outer layer of six equal diameter brass plated steel wires disposed about the core wires, the diameter of the outer layer wires being between about 1.23 and about 1.43 times the diameter of the core wires. The two core wires are twisted about one another and the outer wires are twisted about the core. Both the core and the outer wires are laid in the same direction. This abstract is not to be taken either as a complete exposition or as a limitation of the present invention, however, the full nature and the extent of the invention being discernible only by reference to and from the entire disclosure.
