    Abstract: A connector for joining a bowl guard to the housing of a fluid control component which is very simple to use and which permits the use of easily fabricated parts is disclosed. The fluid control component includes a housing with a depending flange to which a plastic or glass bowl is attached, the flange having a peripheral groove therein. The bowl guard has a peripheral lip with a groove that is alignable with the groove of the housing to form an annular recess when the lip of the bowl guard is placed over the flange of the housing in telescopic relationship. A flexible resilient elongated connector, such as a coil spring, having a cross-sectional area substantially corresponding to that of the annular recess is insertable through a notch in the lip into the annular recess and the protrusions of the coil spring are engageable with transverse ribs in the housing groove to hold the connector upon rotation of the bowl guard with respect to the housing. The groove of the bowl guard moves longitudinally therealong until the connector is enclosed within the annular recess after approximately one revolution of the bowl guard to prevent separation of the bowl guard from the housing due to shear forces.

An oil filter for an I.C. engine comprises a housing 10 mounted on the engine and enclosing a filter element 30 in the form of a roll of tissue paper, fitted over an aluminium tube 42 which delivers the oil from inlet 34, 40 to the upper end of the element, whose outer periphery is sealingly engaged by housing cover 20, held on by bolt 78, the lower, outlet, end of element 30 being supported by perforate plate 52, through which filtered oil passes to annular groove 44 and outlet 36, 46. The element is replaced after lifting tube 42, plate 52 and element 30 out of the housing by handle 60, the housing remaining attached to the engine. The housing interior is tapered to facilitate element insertion. Inlet and outlet sockets 34, 36 are formed in a thickened rib 32 of the housing base.

    Abstract: 1,109,241. Filter. MARVEL ENGINEERING CO. 9 April, 1965 [10 April, 1964], No. 15295/65. Heading B1D. A filter comprises a hollow paper filter element 16 contained within and fixed to a housing 1 such that there is a surrounding space between the element and the housing wall, an inlet 3 to the housing communicating directly with the said surrounding space and an outlet 2 communicating with the inside of the element, a valve 20 which opens into the element when the pressure in the surrounding space exceeds the pressure inside the element by a predetermined value so that liquid can bypass the filter wall of the element and pass into the element through the valve, and an indicator 29 which has fingers with portions located outside the housing which indicator is connected via rod 22 to valve 20 whereby an indication is provided when the valve is open and the liquid is being bypassed. The filter may also comprise cylindrical filter elements 9a and 9b, a magnetic extension of rod 22 into the element for retaining metal particles not retained by the filter elements, and a ring 32 movable 'by indicator 29 as the valve opens or an electrical switch activated by indicator 29 to operate visual or audible signals adjacent or remote from the filter housing as the valve opens.

    Abstract: A drop-in filter element assembly with axial staged treatment includes a proximal endcap configured to be positioned within a filter housing adjacent the inlet flow through the filter element, first filter media extending from the proximal endcap and configured to treat the fluid flowing there through, an intermediate endcap unit coupled to the first filter media and spaced from the proximal endcap, second filter media extending from the intermediate endcap unit and configured to treat the fluid flowing there through, wherein the second filter media is a distinct type of media from the first filter media, and a distal endcap configured to be positioned within the filter housing adjacent the outlet flow through the filter element and coupled to the second filter media and spaced from the intermediate endcap unit, wherein the first and second filter media provide axially staged treatment to the fluid.
