Abstract:
The amount of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and hydrocarbon emissions emanating via the exhaust during operation of a gasoline engine is reduced by dispensing to a gasoline engine adjusted to operate primarily at an air-to-fuel ratio between lambda of about 0.9 to about 1.15, a gasoline that contains a minor amount of (i) a cyclopentadienyl manganese tricarbonyl compound and (ii) an alkyllead anti-knock agent. Components (i) and (ii) are proportioned such that there is dissolved in the fuel a substantially equal weight of manganese as (i) and lead as (ii), and the amount of (i) and (ii) used in the fuel is an amount that reduces the amount of NOx and hydrocarbons in the engine exhaust on combustion of the fuel with an air-to-fuel ratio between lambda of about 0.9 to about 1.15. Lambda is the actual air-to-fuel ratio divided by the stoichiometric air-to-fuel ratio. The stoichiometric air-to-fuel ratio is a lambda value of one.
Abstract:
A fuel additive composition comprising (a) a polyisobutenyl succinimide derived from ethylenediamine or diethylenetriamine, wherein the polyisobutenyl group has an average molecular weight of about 1200 to 1500 and (b) a nonvolatile paraffinic or naphthenic carrier oil, or a mixture thereof.
Abstract:
The novel polymers of the present invention are prepared by reacting a heterocyclic nitrogen compound containing at least one --N(H)-- group in the ring, an aldehyde N-containing polymer adduct (e.g., an ashless nitrogen-containing dispersant or polyolefin-substituted amine) to form an oil soluble Mannich base derivative useful as dispersant, antiwear and antioxidant additive in oleaginous compositions such as lubricating oils and fuels. Preferred heterocyclic nitrogen compounds are azoles such as benzotriazoles and alkyl-substituted benzotriazoles. The polyolefin-substituted amine can comprises the reaction product of a polyamine and halogenated long chain hydrocarbons.
Abstract:
Improved additives/detergents for lubricant and fuel compositions are obtained by condensing a hydroxyalkyl or hydroxyaryl compound with an amine compound. The condensates according to the present invention are produced by the acid catalyzed condensation of the amine reactant with the hydroxy reactant.
Abstract:
A product formed by reacting at least one acyclic hydrocarbyl substituted succinic acylating agent such as polyisobutenyl succinic anhydride with at least one N-(alkoxy-alkyl) alkanediamine such as N-(isodecyloxypropyl)-1,3-diaminopropane is effective as a detergent-dispersant for liquid fuels and oleaginous liquids.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a novel class of compounds, useful as gasoline detergent additives, comprising asymmetrical ureas of either a hydrocarbyloxypolyether amine alone, or a hydrocarbyloxypolyether amine and a tertiary aminoalkyl primary amine. The present invention also provides a motor fuel composition containing the novel asymmetrical ureas and further provides a method of synthesizing the asymmetrical ureas of the present invention.
Abstract:
A fuel additive is the reaction product of an intermediate reaction product of a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride and an aminosalicylic acid, preferably a 4-aminosalicylic acid. The intermediate is reacted with an aldehyde, preferably formaldehyde and an alkylenepolyamine preferably tetraethylenepentamine. The reaction product is post reacted with a hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride which can be the same or different as the hydrocarbon-substituted succinic anhydride of the intermediate. The additive has dispersant and detergent properties and is effective in liquid hydrocarbon or liquid oxygenated fuels or mixtures of the said fuels.
