Abstract: A container is provided comprising: a bottom panel, at least one top panel, a first side panel, a second side panel, a plurality of front flanges and a plurality of back flanges, wherein the panels and flanges are connected together to define the container. Back lines of separation are formed in the first and second side panels, the at least one top panel and at an interface between the bottom panel and one of the back flanges such that a removable back portion can be separated from a remainder of the container via the back lines of separation so as to create a product exit opening. Abstract: Pulps in accordance with certain embodiments include crosslinked cellulose fibers and have high brightness, reactivity, and intrinsic viscosity, and therefore can be well suited for use as a precursor in the production of low-color, high-viscosity cellulose derivatives. A method in accordance with the present technology includes forming a pulp from a cellulosic feedstock, bleaching the pulp, crosslinking cellulose fibers within the pulp while the pulp has a high consistency, and drying the pulp. Crosslinking the cellulose fibers can include exposing the fibers to a glycidyl ether crosslinker having two or more glycidyl groups and a molecular weight per epoxide within a range from 140 to 175. Another method in accordance with the present technology includes providing an aqueous suspension of pulp that includes chemical wood pulp fibers that were previously bleached and dried, crosslinking the fibers with such a glycidal ether crosslinker, and drying the pulp.

Abstract: Bleached polycrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers with reduced furfural content are disclosed. The reduced furfural content is accompanied by a strong reduction of malodor associated with crosslinked fibers. Methods of furfural reduction include treatment with hydrogen peroxide in the absence of alkaline or other bleaching agents subsequent to curing polyacrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers. Some embodiments of treated polycrylic acid crosslinked cellulose fibers have a furfural content lower than 1.3 ppm. In some embodiments, the reduction of furfural content of the treated crosslinked fibers compared to untreated crosslinked fibers is at least 55%. in some embodiments, furfural content decreases with aging of the treated crosslinked fibers.

Abstract: A refining member including a refining body with a refining surface including first and second refiner bars separated by first and second refiner grooves. The first and second refiner bars extend from respective first and second radially inward positions to respective first and second radially outward positions. The first and second refiner bars have a respective first and second height extending upward from a floor of a respective, adjacent first or second refiner groove. The second height is a minimum height of the second refiner bars and is spaced apart from the second radially inward position, with the second height being at least about 0.35 mm less than the first height. The first refiner bars are adapted to refine wood fibers and the second refiner bars are adapted to break up fiber bundles.

Abstract: Grafted, crosslinked cellulosic materials include cellulose fibers and polymer chains composed of at least one monoethylenically unsaturated acid group-containing monomer (such as acrylic acid) grafted thereto, in which one or more of said cellulose fibers and said polymer chains are crosslinked (such as by intra-fiber chain-to-chain crosslinks). Some of such materials are characterized by a wet bulk of about 10.0-17.0 cm3/g, an IPRP value of about 1000 to 7700 cm2/MPa·sec, and/or a MAP value of about 7.0 to 38 cm H2O. Methods for producing such materials may include grafting polymer chains from a cellulosic substrate, followed by treating the grafted material with a crosslinking agent adapted to effect crosslinking of one or more of the cellulosic substrate or the polymer chains. Example crosslinking mechanisms include esterfication reactions, ionic reactions, and radical reactions, and example crosslinking agents include pentaerythritol, homopolymers of the graft species monomer, and hyperbranched polymers.

Abstract: A corrugated cardboard blank for making a collapsible container including one or more panels joined to a bottom panel. The bottom panel is divided into first and second sectional panels on opposing sides of an interface comprising perforated portions extending from a first pair of diagonally opposing corners of the bottom panel. Each perforated portion includes an inner end, wherein the inner ends of the perforated portions are longitudinally spaced from each other. First and second fold lines extend diagonally at least partially between a second pair of diagonally opposing corners of the bottom panel and respective perforated portions. A frangible central portion of the interface extends between the inner ends of the perforated portions, wherein a plurality of unbroken flutes of the corrugated material extend laterally across the central portion of the interface.
