Abstract:
Output devices supporting wireless device discovery are herein disclosed and enabled. To setup an output device for wireless connection, wireless device discovery is performed by a client of the output device to discover the output device. Upon being discovered, the output device may provide or transmit identification or information related to the output device to the client for establishing a wireless connection. Subsequently, the output device may receive, via the wireless connection, digital content from the client for output. Wireless device discovery operations may be based on one or more of a close proximity wireless communication, a Bluetooth wireless communication, or a direct wireless communication compatible with a protocol within IEEE 802.11 standards. Security information, such as a password, biometrics, or a PIN, may be required for establishing the wireless connection. The output device may automatically obtain the security information from the client or may require, in part, user input.
Abstract:
Printers that support wireless printing or printing over air are herein disclosed and enabled. The printer includes a wireless communication unit that supports part of IEEE 802.11 wireless standards and a device discovery component to facilitate a client to discover the printer; wherein subsequent to being discovered by the client, the printer may wirelessly transmit at least part of an output device profile to the client that has discovered the printer, the output device profile includes information related to the printer. After the printer is selected or identified for service, the printer may receive from the client print data that is conformed based, at least partly, to the transmitted output device profile. A device specific driver may or may not be necessary for printing. The device discovery may be based on a close proximity wireless device communication, a direct wireless communication, or a local area network communication.
Abstract:
A communication device including an image capturing device having a RF-ID unit for performing proximity wireless communication with a RF-ID reader/writer connected via an infrared communication path to a TV. The image capturing device includes: an antenna for the proximity wireless communication; a data receiving unit receiving an input signal from the RF-ID reader/writer; a nonvolatile second memory storing at least UID and an execution program; and a data transmission unit transmitting the UID and the execution program to the RF-ID reader/writer via the antenna according to the input signal. The UID is used to identify the communication device, and the execution program is executed by the TV with reference to the UID. The transmitted UID and execution program are transferred to the TV via the RF-ID reader/writer.
Abstract:
Provided is a data setting system that has an image forming apparatus provided with an image reading part, and the communication terminal apparatus provided with a light irradiating part. The image forming apparatus is provided with an optical-communication receive part and an optical-communication execution part. The optical-communication receive part receives an external light signal by using an image reading part. The optical-communication execution part performs a setup of the data corresponding to the received light signal. The communication terminal apparatus is provided with an optical-communication sending part. The optical-communication sending part sends the light signal corresponding to a setup of data using a light irradiating part.
Abstract:
A wireless controller for accessing digital content and connectable externally via a wired connection to output devices, such as televisions, projectors, audio output devices, and printers, is herein disclosed and enabled. The wireless controller may be a box for connecting to a television. To illustrate, connecting the wireless controller to a television makes the television a smart television for accessing digital content via the wireless controller. The wireless controller includes a wireless communication unit that is compatible with at least one protocol within IEEE 802.11 or Bluetooth for accessing a wireless local area network and may establish wireless connections with mobile information apparatus in its vicinity. Subsequent to establishing the wireless connection, the mobile information apparatus may transmit, stream, or mirror digital content to the output devices over the established wireless connection. The wireless controller may collect authentication, payment, or subscription information for accessing some digital content services.

Abstract:
A communication device that can simplify various settings of a display device, such as a TV, that provides information regarding an object (communication device) is provided. An image capturing device (1) has a RF-ID unit (47) for performing proximity wireless communication with a RF-ID reader/writer (46) connected via an infrared communication path to a TV (45). The image capturing device (1) includes: an antenna (21) for the proximity wireless communication; a data receiving unit (105) receiving an input signal from the RF-ID reader/writer (46); a nonvolatile second memory (52) storing at least UID (75) and an execution program (116); and a data transmission unit (108) transmitting the UID (75) and the execution program (116) to the RF-ID reader/writer (46) via the antenna (21) according to the input signal. The UID (75) is used to identify the communication device, and the execution program (116) is executed by the TV (45) with reference to the UID (75). The transmitted UID (75) and execution program (116) are transferred to the TV (45) via the RF-ID reader/writer (46).
Abstract:
Smart phones are herein disclosed and enabled. The smart phones include a graphical user interface, a touch sensitive screen, a digital camera, a wireless communication unit compatible with Bluetooth® and/or IEEE802.11 standards, and an Internet browsing application. The user may install additional applications to the smart phones. In one example, the smart phones may connect wirelessly to a Bluetooth® wireless audio output device. To setup wireless connection, the smart phone provides an interface over the touch sensitive screen to initiate wireless discovery, discovers one or more wireless devices for user selection, and locks a wireless communication connection between the smart phone and the selected wireless audio output device for wireless output of the audio content. A password or code may be required for connection. A security key may be stored in the smart phones to facilitate future connections. The smart phones also may support IEEE802.11 standards for direct wireless communication.
Abstract:
A bifurcated interface for integrated use in a fax-to-email system provides an alternative or additional method for command entry a fax-to-email system preferably through a remote, commercially available, personal digital assistant or like device modified by software to perform the command entry functions. Delivery of commands, and other data, from the PDA is made, preferably, via infrared signals, but, alternatively, by direct cable syncing and other techniques. Thus, the interface is bifurcated having a portable traveler portion and a host portion in a more permanent connection with the fax function of the fax-to-email system. The PDA functions as the interface traveler portion, and becomes (at least temporarily) a specially programmed data entry tool with command communicating ability and a protocol shared by (or matched to) the interface host portion. The system can also be used in cooperation with Internet Web service for reporting, accounting, information services, and user interaction.
