    Abstract: A system and method for taillight signal recognition using a convolutional neural network is disclosed. An example embodiment includes: receiving a plurality of image frames from one or more image-generating devices of an autonomous vehicle; using a single-frame taillight illumination status annotation dataset and a single-frame taillight mask dataset to recognize a taillight illumination status of a proximate vehicle identified in an image frame of the plurality of image frames, the single-frame taillight illumination status annotation dataset including one or more taillight illumination status conditions of a right or left vehicle taillight signal, the single-frame taillight mask dataset including annotations to isolate a taillight region of a vehicle; and using a multi-frame taillight illumination status dataset to recognize a taillight illumination status of the proximate vehicle in multiple image frames of the plurality of image frames, the multiple image frames being in temporal succession.

In one aspect, the method includes receiving a first image from a camera of an autonomous vehicle and acquiring first camera pose constraints based on one or more static objects detected in the first image. The method further includes acquiring third camera pose constraints based on one or more dynamic objects detected in the first and the second image.     Abstract: The system and method make it feasible to develop an autonomous vehicle control system for complex vehicles, such as for cargo trucks and other large payload vehicles. The method and system commence by first obtaining 3-dimensional data for one or more sections of roadway. Once the 3-dimensional roadway data is obtained, that data is used to run computer simulations of a computer model of a specific vehicle being controlled by a generic vehicle control algorithm or system. The generic vehicle control algorithm is optimized by running the simulations utilizing the 3-dimensional roadway data until an acceptable performance result is achieved. Once an acceptable simulation is executed using the generic vehicle control algorithm, the control algorithm/system is used to run one or more real-world driving tests on the roadway for which the 3-dimensional data was obtained. Finally, the computer model for the vehicle is modified.
