Abstract:
A method for improving haul road surface conditions comprises collecting performance data associated with at least one machine operating on a haul route and determining a rolling resistance of each of the at least one machine based on the performance data. An average rolling resistance associated with one or more portions of the haul route is determined based on the rolling resistance of each of the at least one machine. The one or more portions of the haul route are identified as irregular if the average rolling resistance of the one or more portions exceeds a threshold resistance value. A proposed modification to the irregular portion of the haul route is generated, and performance of the at least one machine is simulated based on the proposed modification. The method also includes outputting results of the simulated performance.
Abstract:
A turbine engine comprises a turbine housing, a turbine disposed in the turbine housing that is configured to receive hot combustion gas, a turbine component subject to thermal energy from the hot combustion gas and a cooling system disposed externally of the turbine housing and having a cooling medium disposed therein. A heat pipe has a high temperature end in communication with the turbine component and a low temperature end extending out of the turbine housing in communication with the cooling medium in the cooling system for transferring the thermal energy from the component to the cooling medium.
Abstract:
A servicing system for a tower member including a first end portion that extends to a second end portion through an intermediate portion having an outer surface includes a climbing system operatively coupleable to the tower member. The climbing system includes at least one climbing module that is selectively operated to shift the climbing system along the tower member from the first end portion toward the second end portion. The servicing system also includes an operating system operatively coupled to the climbing system. The operating system includes at last one lifting motor and a maintenance member. The at least one lifting motor selectively shifts the operating system relative to the climbing system.
Abstract:
An electronic device that is operable to provide navigation information to a user by utilizing the navigation system of a separate mobile device, such as a GPS-enabled mobile phone. The electronic device includes a communication interface for communicating navigation data between the mobile device and the electronic device. The electronic device also includes a display for displaying the navigation data received from the mobile device. The display of the electronic device may be larger than the display of the mobile device, such that a driver of an automobile may use the electronic device to provide a more desirable viewing experience. Further, the electronic device may include a user interface, such as a touch screen, that allows a user to access and control the navigation functions of the mobile device. The electronic device may also be operable to communicate with other portable electronic devices.
Abstract:
A turbine bucket for a turbomachine includes a main body portion having a base portion and an airfoil portion, the base portion includes a bucket cavity forward region and a shank cavity. The turbine bucket also includes a cooling channel that extends through the main body portion. At least one flow passage extends between one of the cooling channel and the shank cavity, toward the bucket cavity forward region. The at least one flow passage delivers a flow of cooling gas toward the bucket cavity forward region. The flow of cooling gas limits ingestion of hot gases into the bucket cavity forward region.
Abstract:
A method for haul road design based on greenhouse gas emissions comprises receiving a first set of performance data associated with a plurality of machines and establishing a greenhouse gas emission limit for the plurality of machines based on the first set of performance data. A target greenhouse gas emission level for each of the plurality of machines is determined based on the greenhouse gas emission limit, and total effective grade is determined based on the target greenhouse gas emission level for the respective machine. The method also includes generating a haul road design based on the total effective grade.
Abstract:
A method for managing machine payload based on haul road conditions comprises collecting performance data associated with a machine operating in a work environment and determining an actual total effective grade of the machine based on the collected performance data. The total effective grade is compared with a target total effective grade value, and total effective grade associated with a plurality of payload levels may be simulated if the actual total effective grade is not within a threshold range of the target total effective grade value. At least one of the plurality of payload levels that causes the simulated total effective grade to fall within the threshold range of the target total effective grade value is identified.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to a non-human transgenic animal, particularly a knock in mouse, whose genome comprises a heterologous, chimeric CTLA4 gene. The chimeric CTLA4 gene comprises exon 2 of the human CTLA4 gene, exon 1 and exon 4 of the non-human animal, and exon 3 of the CTLA4 gene of the non-human animal, or preferably, exon 3 of the human CTLA4 gene. The invention also relates to methods by which the transgenic mice are used to screen for monoclonal antibodies or other molecules that enhance immunity to tumors and infectious agents by interacting with the human CTLA4 receptor. The transgenic mice of the present invention are also useful for screening for monoclonal antibodies or other molecules that inhibit autoimmunity and transplant rejection.
