    Abstract: A surgical cutting instrument for cutting body tissue has an axially elongated support shaft which supports, at a distal end thereof, a back biting assembly. The back biting assembly has a ring-shaped jaw member pivotally supported by the support shaft at a distal end thereof for rearward pivotal movement toward and away from a closed cutting position. A fixed cutting block member, supported by the support shaft at a position proximally of the pivot axis of the ring-shaped member is aligned with and cuttingly engages the ring-shaped member to cut or punch any tissue within the opening of the pivotal jaw member. The fixed cutter member can have a serrated, parallel rib surface facing the moveable jaw member, with at least one serration being taller than the others for blocking the entry of tissue or other foreign objects into the space wherein the pivotable member rotates thereby to prevent blocking of that rotation by such foreign objects. The leading edge of the pivotable member is fashioned with a reduced thickness to better slip beneath and engage tissue such as, for example, meniscus tissue.

    Abstract: The present disclosure describes an apparatus for tissue resection. At least one embodiment described herein provides a tissue resection system that includes a cutter that includes a blade system and a guide bar. The blade system is configured to be slidably coupled to said guide bar to permit said blade system to move relative to the guide bar, and said blade system comprises a chain of a plurality of links hingedly coupled together, wherein at least one said link comprising a cutting portion to cut tissue. The blade system has a thickness configured to generate a recessed pocket in the tissue. Of course, many alternatives, variations and modifications are possible without departing from this disclosure.

    Abstract: A tibial resurfacing system is provided that includes a drill guide, bone chisel and implant. In one aspect, the system includes a drill guide that includes a targeting ring and a bore section for creating an axis through the tibia to the superior tibial surface in the vicinity of the targeting ring. In another aspect, a bone chisel is provided that includes a bone-cutting end, having a transverse angle creating an elliptical bone-cutting face. In another aspect, an implant is provided that includes an angled bearing element formed of a cylindrical member having a first end defining a load-bearing surface, and a second end. The first end is formed at an angle that creates an elliptical face of the first end.
