Systems and methods for ambient-light reduction in display systems with OLED or LCD based displays are disclosed. The base display is interfaced with an ambient-light-reducing (ALR) structure to form the display system. The ALR structure includes an ALR component. The ALR component can be a photochromic component or a fixed neutral-density component. The ALR structure attenuates incoming ambient light as well as outgoing redirected ambient light that is generated within the base display and is then emitted from the display system into the ambient environment. This increases the ambient contrast relative to that of the base display alone.

Embodiments of a color-neutral anti-reflective coating and articles including the same are described. In one or more embodiments, a substrate includes a first major surface and an anti-reflective coating disposed on the first major surface of the substrate and having a reflective surface opposite the first major surface. In one or more embodiments, a point on the reflective surface has a single-surface reflectance under a D65 illuminant with an angular color variation, ΔEθ that is less than 5, where ΔEθ=√{(a*θ1−a*θ2)2+(b*θ1−b*θ2)2}, and a*θ1 and b*θ1 are color values a* and b* values of the point measured from a first angle θ1, and a second angle θ2, where θ1 and θ2 are any two different viewing angles at least 5 degrees apart in a range from about 10° to about 60° relative to a normal vector of the reflective surface.

Embodiments of a curved vehicle display including a display module having a display surface, a curved glass substrate disposed on the display surface having a first major surface, a second major surface having a second surface area, and a thickness in a range from 0.05 mm to 2 mm, wherein the second major surface comprises a first radius of curvature of 200 mm or greater, wherein, when the display module emits a light, the light transmitted through the glass substrate has a substantially uniform color along 75% or more of the second surface area, when viewed at a viewing angle at a distance of 0.5 meters from the second surface. Methods for forming such systems are also disclosed.

Embodiments of an article comprising a cold-formed glass substrate in a curved shape, a plurality of separate mechanical retainers, and a frame are disclosed. The cold-formed glass substrate has a first major surface, and a second major surface opposing the first major surface. In one more embodiments, the plurality of separate mechanical retainers are attached to the second major surface of the cold-formed glass substrate. The mechanical retainers may be attached to the frame to define a position for each of the plurality of mechanical retainers, such that the mechanical retainers define the curved shape. Embodiments of processes to form such articles are also provided. Such processes can include attaching a plurality of separate mechanical retainers to a flexible glass substrate such that the glass substrate maintains its flexibility, and attaching the mechanical retainers to a frame, such that the mechanical retainers attached to the frame define a cold-formed curved shape for the flexible glass substrate.

Embodiments of an anti-glare article and methods for forming the same are disclosed. In one or more embodiments, the anti-glare article includes a substrate having a surface, and a plurality of features disposed on the surface, wherein about 50% or more of the plurality of features comprise a normalized area in the range from about 0.5 to about 1.5, and the normalized area is defined as the relationship (surface area of a feature/average surface area of all features). In some embodiments, about 90% or more of the features have a surface area of about 100 micrometers or less. The anti-glare article exhibits a PPDr of about 5% or less, a transmission haze of less than about 20% and a DOI of less than about 90%. Methods of forming the substrate are also disclosed and include etching a surface of a substrate with an etchant comprising a water soluble metal ion salt.
