Abstract:
The present invention provides a relatively simple synthesis procedure for the formation of silane hydrolyzate compositions of the formula ##EQU1## where R is hydrogen or a methyl group, n is an integer greater than about 8, and x is a number between 0 and 2. The hydrolyzate compositions are metastable in solvent solution, but become insoluble after coating on a substrate. The resins are useful as planarizing coatings for substrates such as electronic devices and can be ceramified by subjecting them to an oxidizing atmosphere at a temperature of between about 100.degree. to 1000.degree. C. to form ceramic or ceramic-like coatings on such substrates.
Abstract:
The present invention involves an automotive glazing panel having an ink that adheres to a plastic substrate and is compatible with a hard-coat system. The plastic substrate comprises an ink printed thereon and a hard-coat system applied on the ink. The ink has a synthetic resin which is a polycarbonate resin, a polyester resin or mixtures thereof. The hard-coat system includes a solvent having greater than 10 weight percent water and includes either a glycol ether, a ketone, an alcohol or an acetate. The ink is adaptable to adhere to the surface of the substrate and be compatible with the hard coat system.
Abstract:
An economical method of manufacturing a plastic glazing panel having an encapsulation for aesthetic purposes and to enhance the sealing of the glazing panel to the vehicle is presented. This economical method includes the steps of forming forming a plastic panel having an A-side and B-side; printing an opaque border from an ink with the border being in contact with the B-side of the panel and substantially encircling the perimeter of the panel; curing the ink of the opaque border; applying a weatherable layer on the printed border and the plastic panel; curing the weatherable layer; depositing an abrasion resistant layer on the weatherable layer; placing the plastic panel into a mold having a soft gasket; injecting an elastomeric material to form an encapsulation that substantially encircles the perimeter of the plastic panel and encompasses the A-side; B-side and edge of the plastic panel; and removing the plastic panel from the mold.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a window assembly having a transparent panel and a conductive heater grid formed integrally with the transparent panel. The conductive heater grid has a first group of grid lines and a second group of grid lines, with opposing ends of each group being connected to first and second busbars. Grid lines of the second group are spaced between adjacent grid lines of the first group, with the height of the grid lines themselves in the second group being less than the height of the grid lines in the first group.
Abstract:
The present invention involves an ink for transferring a printed image from a membrane to a substrate. The ink comprises a hydrocarbon solvent, a synthetic resin, and a thixotrope for forming a thixotropic network in the ink. The hydrocarbon solvent has a predetermined evaporation rate and the thixotropic network of the ink has a thixotropic network magnitude of between about 3×104 and 6×105 dynes/cm2-sec−1 and a thixotropic network strength of at least about 35.0 gm-cm.
Abstract:
A magnetorheological material containing a carrier fluid and a magnetically active particle. The particle has been modified so that the surface of the particle is substantially free of contamination products. The contamination products are removed from the surface of the particle by abrader processing, chemical treatment or a combination thereof. Magnetorheological materials prepared using the particles from which contamination products have been removed exhibit significantly enhanced magnetorheological effects.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of forming a coating on a substrate. The method comprises applying a silane and, optionally, a titanium catalyst, onto the substrate and allowing the silane to hydrolyze and condense with atmospheric moisture to form an insoluble coating.
Abstract:
A magnetorheological material containing a carrier fluid and an iron alloy particle component. The particle component can be either an iron-cobalt alloy or an iron-nickel alloy. The iron-cobalt alloy has an iron:cobalt ratio ranging from about 30:70 to 95:5 while the iron-nickel alloy has an iron:nickel ratio ranging from about 90:10 to 99:1. The iron alloy particle components are capable of imparting high yield stress capability to magnetorheological materials.
Abstract:
A plastic panel system including a transparent plastic panel and an electrically conductive grid. The panel includes a substrate and the grid is provided on the panel so as to overlie the substrate. Including with the grid is at least one conductive mounting location. An electrical connector, which includes a plastic portion and an electrically conductive portion, is secured to the panel by ultrasonically welding the plastic portion to the panel. As a result of the retention of the connector with the panel, the conductive portion of the panel is in electrical contact with the mounting location of the conductive grid. The electrical system of an automotive vehicle can be attached to the connector of the panel system.
Abstract:
The present invention is generally directed towards a polycarbonate surface having an ink printed on the surface. The ink adheres to the polycarbonate and is compatible with a hard coat applied to the polycarbonate substrate. The ink comprises a polycarbonate or a polyester resin or an acrylic resin. The ink composition also comprises a blend of polycarbonate ink or an acrylic ink with a polyester ink such that the ink adheres to the polycarbonate substrate on subjecting the substrate to water immersion and cataplasma tests.
