Abstract:
Propulsion for a vehicle is provided by a hybrid powertrain that includes a torque converter coupled to an electric machine and selectively coupled to an engine. The hybrid powertrain further includes a controller programmed to, responsive to a loss of speed feedback of the electric machine while the engine is disconnected from the torque converter and the torque converter is open, operate one or more of a gearbox, the electric machine, and the engine based on an impeller speed of the torque converter derived from a torque of the electric machine and a speed of the vehicle.
Abstract:
A vehicle includes an engine and an electric machine coupled to a gearbox through a torque converter. The vehicle includes a controller programmed to command an engine torque and an electric machine torque to achieve a predetermined positive torque at the input of the torque converter when a driver demand torque at the torque converter input decreases to fall within a range between the predetermined positive torque and a predetermined negative torque.

Abstract:
A hybrid vehicle and method of control are disclosed wherein the ratio of engine speed to vehicle speed varies continuously in some operating modes and is controlled to simulate a discrete ratio transmission in other operating modes. The disclosure specifies the method of controlling the engine speed and the combined output torque of the engine and at least one traction motor in each of the operating modes. Transitions among operating modes occur in response to driver movement of a shift lever, driver operation of shift selectors, and changes in vehicle speed.
Abstract:
A vehicle having an engine, a starter-generator, and a controller is disclosed. The controller is configured to respond to an engine start command, operate the engine to produce excess torque beyond a demand torque, and in response to engine speed achieving a threshold, operate the starter-generator to load the engine to consume the excess torque and drive the engine speed toward an electric machine speed, and engage a clutch to couple the engine and an electric machine.
Abstract:
A vehicle includes an engine, electric machine, starter-generator, and a controller. The engine and electric machine are each configured to propel the vehicle. The starter-generator is coupled to the engine and is configured to adjust engine speed during an engine start-up event. The controller is programmed to, in response to engine speed increasing towards a target speed during an engine start-up event, generate a target drag torque with the starter-generator to reduce overshoot of the target engine speed.
Abstract:
A DC-DC converter for a vehicle includes a controller programmed to, in response to changes in an output voltage of the converter, adjust a control signal that controls an output voltage of the DC-DC converter to drive a ratio of a first error between a reference current and a current through the inductor to a second error between a voltage reference and the output voltage to a predetermined value.
Abstract:
A hybrid electric vehicle includes an engine and a traction motor coupled to the engine by a coupling device or a clutch for providing torque to wheels of the vehicle. An inverter is electrically connected to the traction motor. A second coupling device or at least one clutch at least indirectly selectively couples the motor to the drive wheels. A controller controls the second coupling device based upon a temperature of at least one of the traction motor and the inverter.
