Abstract: A method of controlling a hybrid electric vehicle including an engine and a first motor connected to main drive wheels and a second motor connected to auxiliary drive wheels includes determining a required torque, in response to a predetermined condition being satisfied, determining a first torque that the second motor is to continuously output based on the required torque and a vehicle speed and determining a second torque that the second motor is to discontinuously output in order to compensate for acceleration loss in a situation in which the acceleration loss occurs based on a state of an engine clutch disposed between the engine and the first motor, a state of a transmission, or the required torque, and determining a final torque of the second motor based on the first and second torques.

Abstract: A fire fighting vehicle includes a chassis, a front axle, a rear axle, an engine, a battery system, an electromagnetic device, an accessory drive, and a controller. The accessory drive is positioned to receive a mechanical input from the engine and the electromagnetic device. The controller is configured to selectively engage a plurality of operational modes including a standby mode and a hybrid mode. According to the standby mode, the controller is configured to operate the electromagnetic device using stored energy stored in the battery system to drive the accessory drive with the engine off. According to the hybrid mode, the controller is configured to operate both the engine and the electromagnetic device.

Abstract: An electrified fire fighting vehicle includes a battery pack, an electric motor, and a controller configured to operate the electric motor using stored energy in the battery pack to provide a performance condition including (i) accelerating the electrified fire fighting vehicle to a driving speed of at least 50 miles-per-hour in an acceleration time and (ii) maintaining or exceeding the driving speed for a period of time. The acceleration time is 30 second or less. An aggregate of the acceleration time and the period of time is at least 3 minutes.

Abstract: A control apparatus for a vehicle that includes (i) a first engagement device configured to connect and disconnect an engine and an electric motor to and from each other, and (ii) a second engagement device configured to connect and disconnect the electric motor and drive wheel to and from each other. In event of a failure of the second engagement device, the control apparatus is configured to forcibly bring the second engagement device into an engaged state and to bring the first engagement device into an engaged state, so as to cause the vehicle to perform a limp-home running in a first running mode in which the vehicle runs using at least the engine. When a running speed of the vehicle becomes lower than a predetermined low-speed threshold value during the limp-home running, the control apparatus is configured to bring the first engagement device into a released state.

Abstract: A transmission control apparatus for controlling a vehicle's transmission. The apparatus includes (i) a control motor mechanically connected to the transmission's selector drum and is actuable to rotate the selector drum, (ii) a torque sensor which senses torque applied to the selector drum by the control motor, (iii) a controller configured to control the control motor based on signals received from the torque sensor to control the engagement/disengagement of the dog clutches; and (iv) a cam indexer connected to the selector drum. The cam indexer includes (i) a cam sprocket having one gear detent corresponding to each of gear engagement position of the selector drum, and one neutral detent corresponding to each neutral position of the selector drum, and (ii) a cam follower that engages with the gear detents and biases the selector drum into either a corresponding gear engagement position or a corresponding neutral position.
