Abstract:
Cab extender systems and methods are provided for reducing the aerodynamic drag on a pickup truck. A cab extender system includes a cab with a roof panel and a rear wall. The cab extends upward on the vehicle to the roof panel and the rear wall extends downward from the roof panel. A tailgate is disposed at a rear of the vehicle and a utility box extends between the rear wall and the tailgate. An extender extends in a rearward direction from the roof panel a length of between ten and twenty centimeters from the rear wall.
Abstract:
A micro-channel cooling fin for a battery module and battery is provided. The cooling fin includes a metal plate assembly that defines a plurality of cooling channels therein. The metal plate assembly includes an inlet section for introducing a coolant into the plurality of cooling channels and an outlet section from which the coolant exits the plurality of cooling channels. Each channel has an output temperature and an input temperature such that the output temperature minus the input temperature for each cooling channel is within a predetermined amount.
Abstract:
A vehicle, system and method of detecting an internal short in a battery pack of the vehicle. The system includes a plurality of sensors and a processor. The plurality of sensors obtains states of charge at battery cells of the battery pack. The processor discharges the battery pack to identify a first set of the battery cells based on the states of charge of the battery cells, charges the battery pack to identify a second set of the battery cells based on the states of charge of the battery cells, and generates an alarm when an intersection of the first set and the second set is non-empty.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a battery module comprising a plurality of battery cells encased in an outer shell. The outer shell has disposed on an inner surface a flame retardant layer that comprises expandable graphite. The expandable graphite is operative to expand during an thermal event that results in an increase in battery module temperature. Disclosed herein too is a method comprising disposing in a battery module a flame retardant layer; where the battery module comprises a plurality of battery cells encased in an outer shell. The outer shell has disposed on an inner surface a flame retardant layer that comprises expandable graphite. The expandable graphite is operative to expand during an thermal event that results in an increase in battery module temperature.
Abstract:
A cooling system for an electric vehicle charge port includes a member having a base wall including an opening and a perimetrical wall extending from the base wall. The base wall and the perimetrical wall defining a volume. A heat spreader arranged in the volume. A terminal extends from the heat spreader through the opening in the base wall. An amount of phase change material (PCM) arranged in the volume, the amount of PCM is in contact with the terminal.
Abstract:
A rotor for an electric machine includes a heat pipe cooling system. A rotor core has a number of cavities internal to the rotor core. The cavities are surrounded by a wall defined by the rotor core. A magnetic element disposed in the at least one cavity leaving a void in the at least one cavity between the magnetic element and the wall. A heat pipe evaporator is disposed in the void and conforms to the available space, contacting the magnetic element and the wall to remove heat from the rotor core.

Abstract:
A charge port for an electric vehicle includes a first charging terminal, a second charging terminal spaced from the first charging terminal, and a phase change material (PCM) cartridge including a non-porous housing storing an amount of PCM. The non-porous housing is arranged in thermal contact with one of the first charging terminal and the second charging terminal.
Abstract:
A battery system includes a power cell and a heat exchanger abutting the power cell. The heat exchanger includes a cooling medium reservoir, a heat exchange member, and a wicking structure disposed between the cooling medium reservoir and the heat exchange member. The wicking structure provides a fluid pathway from the cooling medium reservoir to the heat exchange member and from the heat exchange member to the cooling medium reservoir.
Abstract:
A climate control system includes a memory, a compensation module, and a climate control module. The memory is configured to store images captured by one or more image sensors. The compensation module is configured to: based on the images, estimate a clothing level of a first occupant in an interior cabin of a vehicle or receive the clothing level from at least one of an edge computing device or a cloud-based network device; determine a first EHT setpoint; and determine a first resultant EHT based on the clothing level and the first EHT setpoint. The climate control module is configured to: determine a first EHT error based on the first resultant EHT and a cabin temperature setpoint; determine a control value based on the first EHT error; and set climate control parameters to control a temperature of a first zone within the interior cabin based on the control value.
