Moreover, the present invention also relates to a method to identify the effect of concentration polarization layer and cake layer which can vary according to the axial position of a hollow-fiber and the developing progress of a membrane fouling by measuring the position-dependent zeta potential of the hollow-fiber membrane.

Filter for removal of leucocytes is provided, wherein the filter is coated with a natural polymer of chitosan which has a good blood compatibility and no side effect in human body on an ultrafine non-woven fabric. This blood filter provides a high removal rate of leucocytes as well as good recovery of platelets and red blood cells due to secondary filtration through electrostatic power between a leucocyte and a cationic residue provided by chitosan on the surface of the non-woven fabric.

A method for laser interference lithography using a diffraction grating includes (a) forming a photoresist layer on a work substrate to which a repeated fine pattern is to be formed; (b) forming a refractive index matching material layer on the photoresist layer; (c) forming on the refractive index matching material layer a diffraction grating layer having a period of diffraction grating within the range from λ/ng to λ/n0 (λ is a wavelength of laser beam, ng is a refractive index of the diffraction grating, and n0 is a refractive index in the air or in vacuum); and (d) exposing the photoresist layer by means of mutual interference of positive and negative diffracted lights with the same absolute value by inputting a laser beam perpendicularly to the diffraction grating layer. This method allows to realize an interference pattern with higher resolution and to use a laser source with lower coherence.

A composite reverse osmosis membrane may advantageously be prepared by the process comprising applying porous support layer onto a nonwoven fabric and then forming an ultrathin active layer of an aromatic polyester superposed thereon, the active layer being prepared by the interfacial polymerization of an aqueous solution of polyhydric phenol and a solution of aromatic acyl halide dissolved in an organic solvent; or applying a porous support layer onto a nonwoven fabric and then forming an ultrathin active layer of a copolymer of aromatic polyester and aromatic polyamide superposed thereon, the active layer being prepared by the interfacial polymerization of a mixed aqueous solution of polyhydric phenol and an aromatic amine with a solution of aromatic acyl halide dissolved in an organic solvent. The composite membrane of the present invention has improvements in properties, such as water-permeability, chlorine-resistance, oxidation stability, salt rejection rate, and durability.
