摘要: A device for detecting the marker dye band which is used to monitor the progression of biological macromolecules in gel electrophoresis. This device mounts external to the gel box, and utilizes a single light detector and a pair of AC activated light sources. The light sources produce reflected or transmitted light signals which, when balanced at the detector, cancel. When marker dye is absent the light signals are balanced, and no signal is detected. When marker dye is present at a specific detection point within the gel, the light reflected (or transmitted) is no longer balanced and a signal is detected.

摘要: A radar system for continuously displaying target returns on a conventional television receiver. The radar includes a console connected to a rotating scanner unit through conventional slip rings. The scanner unit contains a radar antenna coupled to a receiver and transmitter, and a power supply generating a multitude of high-voltage and circuit supply voltages from AC power. A position transducer measures the rotary position of the scanner unit and triggers the transmitter as the scanner unit rotates. The return signal is thresholded to generate a video data signal, portions of which are sequentially stored in separate memory locations, each corresponding to a respective range. The set of video data in memory thus corresponds to targets within a predetermined range in a single direction. A processing unit then reads the video data, calculates the displayed position of the targets on the television receiver, and reads the display data into a display memory along with cursor, range marker, and alarm ring information. A light pen interfaces with the processing unit to set the positions of the cursor and alarm rings. The display memory thus contains a record of all illuminated points on the display. A cathode-ray tube controller sequentially transfers the data from the display memory into a shift register which generates a serial data stream that is mixed with appropriate vertical and horizontal synchronizing signals. The resulting data stream may be applied to an RF modulator which generates an RF signal that is compatible with conventional television receivers.

摘要: The disclosed waxing guide is in the form of a thin flat element having a central line formed thereon. The guide is placed beneath the dental cast with the central line centered between maxillary central incisors on the dental cast. Lines spaced outwardly from the central line indicate the apparent width of the central incisor, the adjacent lateral incisor, and the adjacent canine tooth and first bicuspid, when viewed from the front. Each of the spaces has the same ratio of 1:1.618 with the adjacent spaces.

摘要: An instrument for capillary electrophoresis has a vertically translatable carrier holding one end of the capillary and an electrode connected to a power supply, and a rotary carousel for presenting containers of sample and buffer solutions to a load position where the end of the capillary and the electrode may be inserted by operating the carrier. The other end of the capillary and a second electrode connected to the power supply are immersed in an outlet buffer reservoir. The instrument has a vacuum supply for providing a relative vacuum over the solution in the outlet buffer reservoir, so simple material may be injected into the capillary either by electromigration or by differential pressure. After injection, the first end of the capillary and the electrode may be immersed in buffer to accomplish electrophoresis. By manipulating the carousel and carrier, multiple samples may be electrophoresed in series. In a preferred embodiment the instrument includes a flexible duck-billed septum for closing containers while permitting easy access for the electrode and the capillary tube. Also in a preferred embodiment the instrument is controlled by a microprocessor-based controller.

摘要: This invention relates to the disposal of aluminum hydrocarbyl, aluminum hydrocarbyloxy, aluminum halide or aluminum hydride waste materials. Such materials are used as catalysts and may be present alone as well as in combination with similar compounds of other elements typically of Group IV-B, V-B, VI-B, VII-B or VIII. The present disposal process seeks to minimize environmental pollution and provide a product that is suitably used as land-fill. In the process of the invention, a system containing an aluminum hydrocarbon, hydrocarbonoxy, halide or hydride waste stream either with or without a co-present compound of another element as set forth is reacted with a hydroxide or carbonate of a Group I-A, II-A, IV-A, or V-A element under substantially anhydrous conditions. The reaction is comparatively mild and is suitably conducted in ordinary steel equipment without excessive corrosion problems. Diluents co-present with the waste materials are recovered for recycle in anhydrous form without requiring drying.
