    Abstract: A hermetic compressor is provided that may include a casing having an inner space, an orbiting scroll provided in the inner space, a non-orbiting scroll engaged with the orbiting scroll to form compression chambers, a high/low pressure dividing plate that divides the inner space into high and low pressure portions, and an overheat preventing unit coupled to a surface of the dividing plate at the high pressure portion, the overheat preventing unit having a communication hole formed through the dividing plate to communicate the high and low pressure portions, and having a valve spaced from the dividing plate by a predetermined interval to selectively open/close the communication hole according to a temperature variation of the high pressure portion, whereby transfer of a refrigerant temperature of the low pressure portion to the overheat preventing unit through the dividing plate may be prevented, and the compressor may be quickly stopped upon being overheated, thereby being protected from damage.

    Abstract: A scroll compressor according to the present invention includes a casing, an orbiting member provided within the casing and performing an orbiting motion, a non-orbiting member forming a compression chamber together with the orbiting member, the compression chamber having a suction chamber, an intermediate pressure chamber and a discharge chamber, a communication passage communicating inside and outside of the compression chamber with each other, an opening/closing valve assembly provided outside the non-orbiting member within the casing and opening and closing the communication passage, and a switching valve assembly provided within the casing and operating the opening/closing valve assembly, whereby a facilitated fabrication, improved valve responsiveness and a relaxed restriction for a specification of a valve can be achieved, and also an over-compression can be prevented by an installation of a check valve, and an assembling efficiency can be improved by installing two valve assemblies outside the non-orbiting member.

    Abstract: A scroll compressor is provided that may include a first scroll, a second scroll that defines a plurality of compression chambers together with the first scroll, the second scroll having a discharge hole that communicates with a compression chamber among the plurality of compression chambers, a back pressure plate that defines a back pressure chamber to accommodate a refrigerant discharged from the discharge hole, a floating plate to define the back pressure chamber, and a sealing member to prevent the refrigerant from flowing between a first surface, which may be a sliding surface of the floating plate, and a second surface, which may face the first surface, of the back pressure plate. The sealing member may include a seal cover that contacts the other one of the first and second surfaces, and a seal, a portion of which may be accommodated in the seal cover. The seal cover may have a friction coefficient less than a friction coefficient of the seal.

    Abstract: An upper back pressure type scroll compressor is provided having a back pressure chamber. The scroll compressor may include a casing, a discharge cover, a main frame, a first scroll supported by the main frame, and a second scroll forming a suction chamber, an intermediate pressure chamber, and a discharge chamber together with the first scroll. The scroll compressor may also include a back pressure plate coupled to the second scroll. The back pressure plate may include a cavity with which the intermediate pressure chamber of the second scroll communicates.
