Abstract: Systems, devices and methods are described herein. An integrated light emitting diode (LED) lighting system includes an electronics board. An alternating current (AC) input is disposed on the electronics board. Multiple strings of LED devices are disposed on the electronics board, each having an individual voltage threshold. A buck converter is disposed on the electronics board and is electrically coupled to provide a direct current (DC) current based on an AC current at the AC input. A switching circuit is disposed on the electronics board and is electrically coupled to the strings of LED devices to apply the DC current to each of the strings in a sequence beginning at a time when an instantaneous voltage level at the AC input reaches the individual threshold voltage of a first one of the strings of LED devices in the sequence.

Abstract: An inventive light source includes a substrate and a set of multiple light-emitting elements. The substrate is transparent or reflective for visible light. The light-emitting elements are positioned on or within the substrate. Each light-emitting element comprises one or more inorganic microLEDs that are arranged to generate and emit non-visible output light (e.g., infrared light) to propagate out-of-plane relative to a corresponding localized area of the substrate around that light-emitting element. Each light-emitting element of the set being sufficiently small in at least one transverse dimension, and the light-emitting elements occupying a sufficiently small fraction of an areal extent of the set, so as to enable visual observation of a scene through or reflected by the substrate along a sight line that passes through the set of light-emitting elements.

Abstract: An inventive method includes providing a set of multiple light-emitting elements disposed on a flexible polymer layer, and attaching a rigid layer to the polymer layer with a set of multiple light-emitting elements between them. Each light-emitting element includes one or more inorganic microLEDs that are arranged to generate and emit output light to propagate out-of-plane relative to a corresponding localized area of the polymer layer surrounding that light-emitting element. The rigid layer and the polymer layer form a laminated structure that is transparent for visible light. Each light-emitting element of the set being sufficiently small in at least one transverse dimension, and the light-emitting elements occupying a sufficiently small fraction of an areal extent of the set, so as to enable visual observation of a scene through the laminated structure along a sight line that passes through the set of light-emitting elements.

Abstract: A light-emitting apparatus includes light-emitting and primary optics arrays. The light-emitting array includes multiple light-emitting pixel elements, each emitting at one of one or more output wavelengths. The primary optics array includes multiple metastructured primary optical elements, each receiving output light from a corresponding pixel element and redirecting that light to form a portion of array output light. Different primary optical elements receive pixel output light from different corresponding pixel elements. The primary optical elements differ from one another with respect to structural arrangement of their corresponding metastructures. Those different arrangements result in differing collimation, propagation directions, or angular radiation distributions of the corresponding portions of array output light emitted by different pixel elements of the light-emitting array.

Abstract: A light emitting device is disclosed and includes an emission source configured to emit a primary blue light and a wavelength-converting element configured to convert the primary blue light to a secondary light, where the wavelength-converting element including a red phosphor material having a peak emission wavelength that is less than 620 nm and a green phosphor material having a peak emission wavelength that is greater than 530 nm. The device may have a correlated color temperature (CCT) in the range of 1600K-2500K, may exhibit a melanopic/photopic ratio less than 0.25 and/or may exhibit a radiometric power fraction of light having a wavelength below 530 nm below 0.1.

Abstract: Techniques and devices are provided for sensing image data from a scene and activating primary light sources based on information sensed from the scene. Subsets of a plurality of primary light sources may be activated to emit sensing spectrum of light onto a scene. Combined image data may be sensed from the scene while the subsets of the plurality of primary light sources are activated. Reflectance information for the scene may be determined based on the combined image data and combined sensing spectra. Spectrum optimization criteria for the primary light sources may be determined based on the reference information and a desired output parameter provided by a user or determined by a controller. The plurality of primary light sources may be activated to emit a lighting spectrum based on the spectrum optimization criteria.
