摘要: A wireless untethered device which may be an integrated circuit chip or printed circuit board having at least one integrated antenna and circuitry operatively associated with the antenna for receipt of energy harvested from space by the antenna. The antenna has an effective area greater than its physical area. A system which receives power from the harvested energy after the energy is processed by the circuitry may also be provided with mismatched impedance between the antenna and a circuit resistance.

摘要: The present invention relates to compositions and methods for rendering medical devices less prone to fibrous encapsulation comprising the use of non-gaseous CO dissolved in a reservoir material. Upon exposure to a biological environment, non-gaseous CO is slowly desorbed and/or dissolved from the reservoir material which provides anti-fibrotic activity. These compositions and methods may be used directly on soft tissue implants and/or medical devices to treat and/or prevent conditions and disease states related to fibrosis. Furthermore, the compositions can be incorporated into materials that are used to create soft tissue implants and/or medical devices to imbue implants and devices with anti-fibrotic properties.

摘要: The present invention relates generally to silver-based antimicrobial compositions and processes for making such compositions. More particularly, the present invention describes stable, purified silver-based antimicrobial compositions, and processes for making such compositions, comprising carrier-free silver thiosulfate ion complexes either suspended in a base or incorporated into a matrix. These silver thiosulfate ion complex antimicrobial compositions are useful in the treatment and prevention of infections and diseases.

摘要: A medical device with an antimicrobial coating that is safe, effective, photostable and readily manufacturable can be produced by applying a composition to at least one body fluid-contacting surface of the device such that a solid coating is provided on that surface, the coating composition comprising an oligodynamic metal salt of a sulfonylurea, a polymeric material, at least one acid compound selected from the group consisting of a water-soluble carboxylic acid and water-insoluble carboxylic acid, and a carrier liquid in which foregoing components are soluble. The antimicrobial coating accommodates variation in the release of antimicrobial metal ions as a function of the intended use for a medical device to which the coating is applied.

摘要: The present invention provides muscle-derived progenitor cells that show long-term survival following transplantation into body tissues and which can augment soft tissue following introduction (e.g. via injection, transplantation, or implantation) into a site of soft tissue. Also provided are methods of isolating muscle-derived progenitor cells, and methods of genetically modifying the cells for gene transfer therapy. The invention further provides methods of using compositions comprising muscle-derived progenitor cells for the augmentation and bulking of mammalian, including human, soft tissues in the treatment of various cosmetic or functional conditions, including malformation, injury, weakness, disease, or dysfunction. In particular, the present invention provides treatments and amelioration for dermatological conditions, gastroesophageal reflux, vesico-ureteral reflux, urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, heart failure, and myocardial infarction.
