An output signal from the clamping circuit is supplied to an A/D converter which converts the supplied signal at such timing as not to sample the signal, corresponding to the first pixel, from the through region.

An output voltage characteristic in the standard state corresponding to a reference charge is stored and held in a ROM in advance. An ALU (arithmetic logical unit) corrects the light (charge amount)--output voltage characteristic by using the output voltage characteristic in the standard state corresponding to the reference charge stored in the ROM and the output voltages corresponding to the reference charge inputs from reference charge input portions in an imaging state, and corrects an output voltage (Va) corresponding to a signal charge in a practical imaging state.

A photometric device includes a photoelectric conversion section to photoelectrically convert the light from an object, output circuits that output information from the photoelectric conversion section, a logarithmic conversion section that logarithmically compresses the output from the output circuit, and a correction section that corrects the output from the output circuit. The correction section corrects the output from the output circuit after it is logarithmically compressed by the logarithmic conversion section. It is possible to obtain accurate photometric results using the photometric device. A simple computation method is used without burdening the microcomputer and memory.

The camera is configured by providing a light measurement unit which measures light by dividing the subject field into multiple regions and outputs multiple light measurement data relating to the brightness of the subject field. A subject tracking unit tracks the subject by detecting the movement of the subject using the output from the light measurement unit, and a focal point detecting unit that includes multiple focal point detection regions within the subject field and detects the status of the focal point adjustment unit if the focal point of a photographic lens is manually adjusted. If the focal point of the photographic lens is adjusted by the subject tracking unit, and at least one of the multiple focal point detection regions is in focus, the subject tracking unit tracks the subject position in the focal point detection region that is in focus as the new subject.

Since the magnifications of the first zoom lens and the second zoom lens are made equal on the basis of the amounts of feed, effective pixels do not decrease, unlike magnification correction using an electronic zoom.
