In a vacuum-operated power brake booster, a control housing with a poppet valve for the control of the differential pressure comprises two control housing parts slidable telescopically in relation to one another. The first control housing part is secured to the rolling diaphragm through a diaphragm plate. In the release position the diaphragm plate is in abutment on the frontal sealing surface of the poppet valve that is held by the first control housing part. On its side remote from the sealing surface, the poppet valve is furnished with a stop which bears against the second control housing part through a sleeve. The second control housing is held by the booster housing via a ring seal. To keep the effect of the atmospheric pressure on the outwardly disposed surfaces of the poppet valve as small as possible, the poppet valve is provided on its section remote from the sealing surface with a circumferential annular sealing lip which projects radially outwardly beyond the said section and which is in sealing abutment on the cylindrical inner surface of the second control housing part.

In order to improve the deformation behavior of a vacuum brake booster provided with force transmission pins that are used to transmit forces onto a body splashboard of a motor vehicle, the invention discloses that the force transmission pins are made up of two sections having different strength. To achieve a sufficiently low strength when a fastening screw is used for a first section, the first section is embodied as a hollow body, and the fastening screw extends only over the length of a second section of the pin. Because the first section is configured as a hollow body, the screw arranged in the second section can be actuated through the first section.

In a vacuum-operated brake power booster, a rubber reaction disc is arranged between a valve piston accommodated in the control housing and the push-rod co-acting with the piston of the master cylinder. The disc features a substantially circular truncated cone-shaped configuration, and is retained in a recess of the control housing in such a manner that its smaller circular disc-shaped frontal area faces the valve piston. The recess in the control housing is partly configured as a cylindrical bore and is furnished at its control piston-side end with a funnel-shaped portion against which a truncated cone-shaped portion of the rubber reaction disc is abutted. Notwithstanding the utilization of a highly soft rubbery-elastic material, the partly truncated cone-shaped configuration of the rubber reaction disc renders possible a very short overall length of the control assembly.

The booster includes a casing subdivided into two chambers by a moveable wall having a diaphragm which has an internal edge bead disposed in an annular groove in the control valve housing of the booster. An annular retention ring surrounds the bead of the diaphragm to the outside of the bead and radially retains the edge bead within the control valve housing groove.
