摘要: Disclosed are multifiber ferrule assemblies and methods for manufacturing the same. In one embodiment, a finished multifiber ferrule can be provided with a front end having a first front surface that extends beyond a second front surface, thereby inhibiting interaction with a laser beam during processing. A plurality of optical fibers can be fixed within respective optical fiber bores and extend from respective optical fiber bore openings to a position beyond the first front surface. The plurality of optical fibers can be processed by cutting and polishing with a laser beam for providing each optical fiber with a final polished end surface located beyond the first front surface. In further embodiments, an offset structure is positioned with respect to a finished multifiber ferrule after cutting and polishing the optical fibers.

摘要: A preconnectorized outdoor cable streamlines the deployment of optical waveguides into the last mile of an optical network. The preconnectorized outdoor cable includes a cable and at least one plug connector. The plug connector is attached to a first end of the cable, thereby connectorizing at least one optical waveguide. The cable has at least one optical waveguide, at least one tensile element, and a cable jacket. Various cable designs such as figure-eight or flat cables may be used with the plug connector. In preferred embodiments, the plug connector includes a crimp assembly having a crimp housing and a crimp band. The crimp housing has two half-shells being held together by the crimp band for securing the at least one tensile element. When fully assembled, the crimp housing fits into a shroud of the preconnectorized cable. The shroud aides in mating the preconnectorized cable with a complimentary receptacle.

摘要: A method of inhibiting inadvertent and unauthorized writing and reading of information to and from a storage medium comprises the steps of (a) writing a first code in a predetermined location on the storage medium, the first code being indicative of a first protection mode of the storage medium; (b) receiving a command to change the protection mode of the storage medium from the first protection mode to a second protection mode; and, in response to the command, (c) writing in the predetermined location on the storage medium, in place of the first code, a second code indicative of the second protection mode. A protection mode can inhibit writing to the storage medium, both writing and reading to and from the medium, or neither. Changing of protection modes can also be password protected.

摘要: An enthalpy pump (10) for altering the humidity level of an air stream (12, 14). The enthalpy pump comprises a container having a transfer portion (38) disposed in a first air stream (12), with a liquid desiccant contained in the transfer portion (38). The transer portion (38) is permeable to water vapor and impermeable to the liquid desiccant to thereby retain the liquid desiccant within the container while permitting exposure of the liquid desiccant to the first air steam. The transfer portion (38) is also adapted to move the liquid desiccant into and out of the first air stream whereby the latent and/or sensible energy of the first air stream can be altered.

摘要: A system is disclosed for canceling cross-talk in a data read signal from an optical data storage medium. The system includes three AD converters for receiving read signals from three read sensors, and the read signals respectively represent data from a center data track and its two adjacent side data tracks on an optical data storage disk. The digitized signals are sent to a skew compensator to remove time skew between the signals. Then, the amplitudes represented by the side track signals are adjusted, and the adjusted side track signals are subtracted from the center track signal to cancel cross-talk in the center track signal which is attributable to data contained in the side data tracks. The center track signal is then equalized to account for the frequency response of the center track read sensor.

摘要: A process for precisely controlling the thickness of a heat-softenable sheet material (52) comprising heating the material to bring it to a softened condition, compressing the material while in the softened condition to the desired thickness or somewhat less and then cooling the material to a temperature below its softening point so that it sets while precisely maintained at the desired thickness. The material is cooled by passing it between substantially parallel cooling plate (32,34) rigidly spaced with a separation equal to the desired thickness of the material.
