摘要: An apparatus and method for measuring the viscosity of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids over a range of shear rates, especially low shear rates, by monitoring two rising columns of fluid (Newtonian or non-Newtonian) that pass through respective capillaries having different lengths. Furthermore, a specialized column monitor is provided that uses multiple interrogation sources (e.g., lasers) and a single detector (e.g., a charge-coupled device (CCD) array) to continuously monitor both columns of fluid substantially simultaneously. In particular, the system includes a Y-connector to form two flow paths and wherein each flow path includes a tube that includes a riser tube, a capillary tube of predetermined dimensions and a valve in each for controlling the fluid flow in each path. The specialized column monitor monitors the movement of the fluid columns in each of the riser tubes and an associated microprocessor analyzes these movements, along with the predetermined dimensions of the capillary tubes and riser tubes to determine the viscosity of the fluid.

摘要: A ported, premixed extendable burner provides increased turndown capability relative to conventional burners. The burner has an adjustable flameholder sleeve which can be extended and retracted relative to a flameholder, to increase and decrease the available flameholder area. The burner is suitable for use in modulated heating applications and other applications where high turndown ratios are desired.

摘要: A method and apparatus for vaporizing liquid fuel. The apparatus includes at least one capillary flow passage, the at least one capillary flow passage having an inlet end and an outlet end; a fluid control valve for placing the inlet end of the at least one capillary flow passage in fluid communication with the liquid fuel source and introducing the liquid fuel in a substantially liquid state; a heat source arranged along the at least one capillary flow passage, the heat source operable to heat the liquid fuel in the at least one capillary flow passage to a level sufficient to change at least a portion thereof from the liquid state to a vapor state and deliver a stream of substantially vaporized fuel from the outlet end of the at least one capillary flow passage; and means for cleaning deposits formed during operation of the apparatus. The flow passage can be a capillary tube heated by a resistance heater or a section of a tube heated by passing electrical energy therethrough. The liquid fuel can be supplied to the flow passage at any desired pressure depending on the required mass flow rate for the application. The vaporized fuel can be mixed with air to form an aerosol having a mean droplet size of 25 μm or less to minimize ignition energy of the fuel-air mixture, promote fuel flow in an air stream, and combust the liquid fuel efficiently and cleanly.

摘要: A gas fired burner is provided for use in applications such as chemical process furnaces for process heaters in refineries and chemical plants, and the like. The burner is provided with a plurality of fuel gas inlets for enabling manipulation of the flame shape and combustion characteristics of the burner, based upon variation in the distribution of fuel gas between the various fuel gas inlets.A combination pilot and flame holder for a burner, such as may be used in process heaters and furnaces for refineries, chemical plants and the like, is also provided. The pilot is mounted atop a supply pipe for premixed fuel and air, which is positioned in the bore of a burner quarl. The pilot includes a radially outwardly extending flange which is upstream of a surface combustion flame holder for establishing a radially directed surface combustion flame. The present invention also provides a low-emissions burner and pilot system for use in such process heaters and furnaces.

摘要: A displacer spring and displacer/spring assembly for use in an FPSE and with improved wear characteristics. One embodiment calls for the use of a single machined spring operating alternately in a tension mode and a compression mode and wherein the operating frequency of displacer movement can be controlled therewith to a desired resonant frequency. The machined spring of the present invention provides enhanced structural accuracy which, in turn, leads to the elimination of lateral and side loads as compared to prior art wire-wound helical springs.
