Abstract: A beam steering device and a system using the same are provided. The beam steering device includes a plurality of transmission type optical modulation devices provided to steer an incident beam in different directions, wherein each of the plurality of transmission type optical modulation devices includes: a phase modulator including a nanoantenna in which a plurality of nanostructure rows are arranged. Each of the nanostructure rows includes a plurality of nanostructures connected to each other. A meta surface includes the plurality of nanostructure rows. Each of the transmission type optical modulation devices also includes a plurality of drivers provided which independently apply an electric signal to each of the nanostructure rows to control a phase change thereof.

Abstract: A backlight unit for a binocular-holographic display device and a holographic display device including the same are provided. The backlight unit includes a light source unit which outputs light, a first beam expansion unit which expands, in a first direction, the light output from the light source unit, a second beam expansion unit which expands, in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction, the light output from the first beam expansion unit, and a beam deflection unit which diffracts light incident on the first beam expansion unit. The holographic display device includes the backlight unit, a field lens, and a spatial light modulator.

Abstract: A beam steering backlight unit provides a hologram image to multiple viewing positions and a holographic display apparatus includes the beam steering backlight unit. The backlight unit includes a light source array comprising a plurality of two-dimensionally arranged light sources and a micro lens array arranged to face the light source array and comprising a plurality of two-dimensionally arranged micro lenses. The light source array includes a plurality of light source blocks each corresponding to a respective one of the plurality of micro lenses, wherein a plurality of the light sources are arranged in each of the plurality of light source blocks. The light source array is configured to select and turn on only those light sources of the plurality of light sources respectively disposed in a same position in each of the plurality of light source blocks and turn off the other light sources.

The BLU includes: a light source unit that emits coherent illumination light; and a light guide plate that is transparent and includes a light incidence surface onto which the coherent illumination light emitted by the light source unit is incident and a light emission surface through which the illumination light is output. The light source unit includes a beam deflector that adjusts an incidence angle of the illumination light incident onto the light guide plate.

Abstract: A method of removing residual charge from a photoconductive material includes applying a first voltage to the photoconductive material to form an electrostatic field during a collection operation in which x-rays are irradiated onto the photoconductive material; and applying a second voltage to the photoconductor to reduce an amount of residual charge therein during a removal operation, the second voltage being different from the first voltage.
