    摘要: The present invention provides: a pressure plate used in a press for production of a liquid crystal panel, the plate being composed of an Si--SiC sintered material containing SiC and Si, and a process for producing a liquid crystal panel. The process includes sealing a liquid crystal in between a plurality of substrates and subjecting the resulting material to pressurization and heating by the use of a pair of the above pressure plates to bond the plurality of substrates. The process using the pressure plates can provide a liquid crystal panel which produces substantially no strain when heated, which has good gap accuracy between substrates, and which has a small surface roughness and high dimensional accuracy. Moreover, the process can produce a liquid crystal panel economically and in a smaller number of steps.

Molten metal pumps using the materials are provided from which components do not dissolve into the molten metal even when used in molten metal and have sufficient thermal impact resistance and oxidation resistance.

    摘要: A furnace for sintering non-oxide ceramics, particularly Si.sub.3 N.sub.4, which includes a space for accommodating a ceramic shaped body, carbon heaters arranged around the ceramic shaped body in said space and heat insulating layers of carbon fiber mat that cover the inner walls of the furnace. The furnace also includes sheets composed of laminated graphite leaves having an ash content of not more than 0.3% by weight extendedly provided between the heat insulating layers and the ceramic shaped body. As the carbon heaters, those composed of a high purity graphite having a carbon content of at least 99.9980%, a silicon content of not more than 5 ppm and an iron content of not more than 9 ppm, by weight, are preferably used. A process is also disclosed which utilizes the above apparatuses to protect the shaped body from an influence of carbon fiber dusts liberating from the insulating layers during sintering.

    摘要: A structure defining a divided combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, including an upper ceramic member and a lower ceramic member having a passage which abut on each other at an interface to form therein the divided combustion chamber such that the chamber communicates with a main combustion chamber through a passage formed in the lower ceramic member. The upper and lower ceramics members have cutouts formed respectively in their outer surfaces so as to cooperate to constitute at least one external recess which extends across the interface. An expansion member is fitted in each external recess, and has a larger coefficient of thermal expansion than the upper and lower ceramic members, whereby the expansion member keeps the upper and lower ceramic members spaced apart from each other by a predetermined amount at their interface while the engine is operated.

    摘要: A precombustion chamber construction of an internal combustion engine includes an upper ceramic body, a lower ceramic body abutting against the upper ceramic body to form a precombustion chamber communicating through an injection hole with a main combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine, and a metal ring member fitted on outer circumferences of the upper and lower ceramic bodies. According to the invention, the precombustion chamber construction comprises a first key member provided in the upper ceramic body and the metal ring member in the proximity of its upper end, and a second key member provided in the lower ceramic body and the metal ring member in the proximity of its lower end. In this manner, the upper and lower ceramic bodies are prevented from being rotatively moved even if they are subjected to rotating forces caused by vibrations of the engine or explosions of a fuel. The precombustion chamber construction is easy to handle and superior in gas sealing because an air layer is easily formed between the metal ring member and a cavity of a cylinder head for accommodating the precombustion chamber construction.
