Abstract:
Disclosed are nano/micromotor devices, systems, and methods for providing payloads in the gastrointestinal system. In one aspect, a micromotor for a gastrointestinal tract includes a micromotor body including a one or more material layers to provide a structure that surrounds a hollow interior region and has an opening to an exterior of the micromotor body; one or more particles including a biocompatible metal element, the one or more particles contained in the interior region of the micromotor body; a coating coupled to the structure of the micromotor body; and a payload material, in which the micromotor is structured to move in a fluid of a gastrointestinal system based on a reaction between the one or more particles and a constituent or a condition of the fluid, such that the reaction generates bubbles that accelerate out of the opening of the micromotor body to propel the micromotor in the fluid.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to prevention and/or treatment of diseases or disorders associated with a damaged or leaky vasculature in a subject. The present invention provides for methods, combinations and pharmaceutical compositions for preventing and/or treating a disease or disorder associated with a damaged or leaky vasculature in a subject, using, inter alia, an effective amount of a nanoparticle comprising an inner core comprising a non-cellular material, an outer surface comprising a cellular membrane derived from a platelet; and optionally an agent for preventing, treating, diagnosing, or prognosing the disease or disorder and/or monitoring prevention or treatment of the disease or disorder. Exemplary diseases or disorders include hemorrhage (bleeding), cardiovascular diseases or disorders, diseases or disorders associated with narrowing of a blood vessel, tumors or cancers.
Abstract:
The present invention relates treatments of a toxin in a subject. The toxin at least partially effects its toxicity in the subject via binding to a target cell of the subject. The present invention provides for methods, combinations and pharmaceutical compositions for decreasing or neutralizing the effect of a toxin in a subject, using, inter alia, an effective amount of a nanoparticle comprising an inner core comprising a non-cellular material, and an outer surface comprising a cellular membrane derived from a source cell. Exemplary toxins include acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors such as organophosphate poisoning.
Abstract:
The present invention provides for compositions comprising a polymeric hydrogel impregnated with a toxin-absorbing or binding nanoparticle. The present invention also provides for the use of the above compositions for decreasing or neutralizing the effect of a toxin, or for treating or preventing an infection by a microbe that produces a toxin, in a subject. The exemplary toxin is a biological toxin such as a viral, bacterial, fungal, plant or animal toxin.
Abstract:
Provided are methods, combinations and pharmaceutical compositions for treating or preventing an infection in a subject using a nanoparticle comprising a) an inner core comprising a non-cellular material, and b) an outer surface comprising a cellular membrane configured for adhesion of a pathogen that causes said infection. Exemplary infection includes infection caused by a virus, bacterium, fungus, or protozoan.
Abstract:
Provided are nanoparticles and methods of using and making thereof. The inventive nanoparticle comprises a) an inner core comprising a non-cellular material; and b) an outer surface comprising a cellular membrane derived from a cell or a membrane derived from a virus. Medicament delivery systems or pharmaceutical compositions comprising the inventive nanoparticles are also provided. Further provided are immunogenic compositions comprising the inventive nanoparticles, and methods of using the inventive immunogenic compositions for eliciting an immune response, and for treating or preventing diseases or condition, such as neoplasm or cancer, or disease or conditions associated with cell membrane inserting toxin. Vaccines comprising the immunogenic composition comprising the nanoparticles are also provided.
Abstract:
A biomimetic oxygen delivery carrier is provided by employing natural cell membrane as a stabilizer for fluorocarbon nanoemulsions. The resulting formulation exhibits a high capacity for delivering oxygen and can be used to successfully resuscitate subjects in need due to for example hemorrhagic shock. This natural-synthetic platform can alleviate the impact of blood shortages in clinical settings among other uses.
Abstract:
Described are methods, compositions, and devices for early detection and prevention of diseases, including cancer, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases, using broad-spectrum enrichment technology and single cell sequencing technology. An example method for detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) using platelet membrane-coated nanoparticles (PNPs) and single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology is also provided.
