    摘要: A method of positioning a magnetic head on a target cylinder of a magnetic disk uses a position signal derived from a servo signal which is read from a magnetic disk using a magnetic head. The servo signal includes at least first and second servo signal components on even cylinders of the magnetic disk and includes at least third and fourth servo signal components on odd cylinders of the magnetic disk. The position signal is used for moving the magnetic head to a desired cylinder. The method comprises the steps of obtaining a first position signal for positioning the magnetic head to an odd cylinder on the magnetic disk based on a difference between peak values of the first and second servo signal components, obtaining a second position signal for positioning the magnetic head to an even cylinder on the magnetic disk based on a difference between peak values of the third and fourth servo signal components, and using only one of the first and second position signals to position the magnetic head to the target cylinder depending on a cylinder address of the target cylinder.

The head positioning method comprises the steps of setting an moving quantity of the servo head, controlling velocity and position of the servo head depending on the initial moving quantity and a difference between a present track position of the servo head and the second arbitrary track position, and ending the seek operation after a predetermined access time elapses from a start of the seek operation when an actual access time is shorter than the predetermined access time. The predetermined access time is preset depending on the initial moving quantity, and the actual access time is a time it actually takes for the servo head to move from the first arbitrary track position to the second arbitrary track position.

    摘要: A processor of a drive unit positions a head to a designated cylinder position of a disk medium on the basis of a command notified from an upper controller through a data bus and amplifies a read signal by a read amplifier and, after that, transmits the amplified read signal to the upper controller through a read signal line. A data disconnecting circuit is provided for the data bus from an upper apparatus to the processor. The data disconnecting circuit switches the data bus to a disconnection state by a control signal which is generated from the upper apparatus during the data reading operation. When the control signal is interrupted by the end of the data reading operation, the data bus is returned to the connection state.
