摘要: A method for sealing porous metals, which comprises applying powder of a eutectic alloy containing an element having a good diffusibility in a porous metal or powder of a mixture of metals capable of forming the eutectic alloy, to the surface of a porous metal member and heating the surface applied with the powder at a temperature higher than the eutectic temperature of the eutectic alloy to thereby cause the molten eutectic alloy to intrude into pores from the surface of the porous metal member, whereby the melting point of the molten alloy in the pores is promptly increased by diffusion of the element in the porous metal member to solidify the molten metal in the pores, sealing only pores present in the vicinity of the surface of the porous metal member.

摘要: A drilling bit for use in making a taphole in a blast furnace. The drilling bit has a bit head having a plurality of cutting tips radially arranged on and soldered to the bit head. Soldering of the tips to the bit head is carried out by the use of a soldering material of a particular composition containing 3 to 5% by weight of carbon, 0.5 to 3.0% by weight of silicon and the balance iron, the sum of the carbon content and the silicon content in the composition being at least 4% by weight relative to the total weight of the composition. Each of the tips which are to be soldered to the bit head by the use of the particular soldering material is made of either stellite or a super hard alloy.

C. for at least 5 minutes in an atmosphere of an inert gas (e.g., argon, nitrogen, hydrogen) or in a vacuum. The final product is characterized in that it has a porosity not exceeding 7.0%, a pore size not exceeding 50.mu. in diameter, with its structure including portions of iron compounds [Fe.sub.3 (B.C.)], portions where iron and iron compounds are copresent [Fe + Fe.sub.3 (B.P.C.)] and in which the P content is higher at the boundary areas than at the central areas, and portions of fine pores.

摘要: An optical modulation apparatus that performs optimum bias voltage control for optical modulation without using a pilot tone. A drive unit generates a drive signal by adding a bias voltage to an input data signal. A light modulation unit modulates input light output from a light source unit, in accordance with the drive signal, and outputs the results as optical signals. A forward monitoring unit monitors a forward signal of the light modulation unit and outputs the forward signal. A reverse monitoring unit monitors a reverse signal of the light modulation unit and outputs a reverse signal. A bias control unit controls the bias voltage so that a measured monitor ratio matches a target value of the ratio between the forward signal and the reverse signal, obtained when the operating point of the light modulation unit is in a predetermined position on its operation characteristic curve.

摘要: A vehicle-pedal backward-displacement preventing device. A pedal bracket has side plates each including a front end at which the pedal bracket is attached to the dash pane. A bulge protrudes in a protruding direction away from the other of the side plates. An operating pedal having a depressible portion is provided by its lower end portion. A guide member is associated with an upper end portion of the pedal bracket and a vehicle body member. The guide member causes the upper end portion of the pedal bracket to be downwardly displaced, upon displacement of the pedal bracket, whereby the pedal bracket is deformed with the side plates being made to buckle, so as to restrain the displacement of the depressible portion of the operating pedal toward a driver's seat. Each side plate has an aperture located in its region which includes a crest portion of the bulge, such that a strength of each side plate against a load is reduced most in the crest portion. Each side plate therefore can be made to buckle with the crest portion being displaced in the protruding direction.
