摘要: A novel narrow linewidth laser device is disclosed that includes a gain element, such as a quantum well, quantum dot or bulk waveguide laser chip and a fiber Bragg grating formed in an optical fiber positioned to receive the output from a first end of the gain element and return a portion of said output back into the gain element. The fiber Bragg grating is constructed so that its power reflectivity profile has a ratio of reflectivity slope over reflectivity at the 3 dB point below the reflectivity peak on the red side (longer wavelength side) of the grating larger than a value of 2/nm. The operating wavelength of the device may be tuned thermally, electrically, or thermo-electrically to be on the red side of the fiber Bragg grating reflectivity profile, preferably, but not necessarily, at the 3 dB point below the reflectivity peak or lower. In another embodiment, a second grating is optically coupled to a second end of the gain element and has a reflectivity profile that overlaps at least a portion of the reflectivity profile of the front end fiber Bragg grating.

摘要: A novel narrow linewidth laser device is disclosed that is formed monolithically on a semiconductor substrate, such as an indium phosphide substrate, that includes a continuous waveguide with a gain section and a grating section wherein a grating is constructed so that its power reflectivity profile has a ratio of reflectivity slope over reflectivity at the 3 dB point below the reflectivity peak on the red side (longer wavelength side) of the grating larger than a value of 2/nm. The operating wavelength of the device may be tuned thermally, electrically, or thermo-electrically to be on the red side of the fiber Bragg grating reflectivity profile, preferably at the 3 dB point below the reflectivity peak or lower. In another embodiment, a second grating is formed on a second grating section of the waveguide on the opposite side of the gain section than the first grating section and wherein the reflectivity profile of the second grating overlaps at least a portion of the reflectivity profile of the first grating.

摘要: A novel free space optics transceiver is disclosed comprising at least one light source, at least one photodetector, corresponding positioning means that can independently adjust the position of the light source and the photodetector, and a controller that can send and receive alignment frames conforming to a communications protocol to and from a remote optical transceiver and can use information in the incoming alignment frames from the remote optical transceiver to appropriately adjust the position of the light source and the photodetector thereby maximizing the received power of light signals sent by the remote optical transceiver. Also, an alignment method is disclosed wherein the controller continuously adjusts the positions of the light source and the photodetector until a light signal is acquired from a remote optical transceiver. Then, the incoming alignment information is used to adjust the light source position to achieve bi-directional communication with the remote optical transceiver.

摘要: In this invention, a novel optical network is disclosed, comprising at least one base transceiver and a plurality of premise transceivers wherein the base transceiver transmits data frames and timing frames to all said premise transceivers and wherein each one of said premise transceivers receives said data and timing frames and transmits to said base transceiver a data frame when a received timing frame instructs said premise transceiver to transmit it. In another embodiment, a free space optics network comprising a plurality of base transceivers and a plurality of premise transceivers is disclosed, wherein each premise transceiver can transmit optical signals of a specific wavelength range that is in general different from the wavelength range of every other premise transceiver and wherein each base transceiver is aligned to a specific premise transceiver and includes a bandpass optical filter that only allows optical signals from said specific premise transceiver to pass through.

摘要: An ergonomic laptop computer includes a main computer body with a keyboard unit, and a display unit. The height, distance and angle of the display unit can be adjusted by means of controllably extendable supportive members pivotally attached to the main computer body and attached to the display unit. The overall stability of the laptop computer is ensured by either appropriately selecting its weight or by using members attached posteriorly to the main computer unit that can controllably slide in and out of said main computer unit. In another embodiment, the height, distance and angle of the display unit can be adjusted by means of a free standing controllably extendable support base.

摘要: A novel optocoupler is disclosed that includes at least one light emitting chip attached to one side of an optically transparent substrate and a photodetector chip attached to the opposite side of the optically transparent substrate. The light emitting chip receives electrical signals that are converted to light signals that are transmitted through the optically transparent substrate and are received and converted to electrical signals by the photodetector on the opposite side of the substrate. Further, a method to manufacture an optocoupler is disclosed where a light emitting chip is flip chip attached to one side of an optically transparent substrate with the light emitting surface of the chip facing the transparent substrate and a photodetector is flip chip attached to the opposite side of the optically transparent substrate, with the receiving surface of the chip facing the optically transparent substrate.
