Abstract:
A plasma spray gun has: a plasma outlet having an axis; and a plurality of liquid feedstock outlets having a non-uniform distribution about said axis.
Abstract:
A suspension plasma spray feeder apparatus for delivering a suspension from a suspension source to a plasma spray gun. The feeder apparatus comprises a suspension line and a vibrator mounted to vibrate the suspension line.
Abstract:
A plasma spraying apparatus includes a main torch and an auxiliary torch. The main torch includes a first electrode including a spraying material discharge hole, a first mantle, and a first insulator including a first plasma gas introducing port. The auxiliary torch includes a second electrode, a second mantle, and a second insulator including a second plasma gas introducing port. A spraying material supplied from the spraying material discharge hole is melted at the axial center of plasma that is formed on the central axis of the first electrode by the first electrode and the second electrode, and a gas introducing part that introduces gas is provided on an inlet side of an opening part and/or in a tapered part provided between the opening part and the first insulator in the first mantle.
Abstract:
An alignment tool is used to ensure proper alignment of a component on a rotating gear relative to a non-rotating platter. The alignment tool includes a first arm member coupled to a locating feature on the gear, and a second arm member that is coupled to the first arm member such that the second arm member is movable relative to the first arm member. When the first arm member is coupled to the locating feature, the second arm member locates off the platter to verify proper alignment. The second arm member is cannot be fitted to the platter when there is improper alignment.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a spray gun with associated nozzle attachments for high deposition efficiency for thermal spray of high quality, dense, low oxide content coatings. The spray guns are used to produce coatings using a thermal spray process, a high velocity oxy-fuel process, a high velocity air-fuel process, cold spraying, and plasma spraying in which the process is characterized by having an over-expanded flow with a Mach number from about 1.0 to about 4.0 which have passageway section which diverges to the gun outlet. In one embodiment the nozzle attachment is another diverging section with a greater angle of divergence than the diverging nozzle section. In another embodiment the nozzle attachment includes the aforementioned diverging nozzle attachment section followed by a converging nozzle section having an outlet section through which the thermal spray is emitted.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for applying a coating to an interior surface of a conduit. In one embodiment, a spray gun configured to apply a coating is attached to an extension arm which may be inserted into the bore of a pipe. The spray gun may be a thermal spray gun adapted to apply a powder coating. An evacuation system may be used to provide a volume area of reduced air pressure for drawing overspray out of the pipe interior during coating. The extension arm as well as the spray gun may be cooled to maintain a consistent temperature in the system, allowing for more consistent coating.
Abstract:
In vacuum plasma spraying a turntable must be provided which not only makes it possible to rotate and tilt a heavy workpiece, but to operate at vacuum plasma temperatures to do so. In the vacuum plasma coating of large parts such as combustion chambers of rocket engines the workpiece must not only be rotated, but it must be tilted. Hence the turntable must be capable not only of supporting heavy parts, but of angulating such heavy workpieces. And this must be done without drive means failure due to extremely high temperatures under which the turntable mechanism is operated. Herein a turntable mechanism is provided which is capable of operating under such conditions. For cooling the turntable drive mechanism internal cooling means are included.
Abstract:
A plasma spray gun system with improved nozzle life. The gun includes a nozzle with a thin annular coolant passage and having a dimension optimized for nozzle life. The system also includes a deionizer to remove ions from the cooling fluid and a dissolved gas remover which also improves nozzle life. In addition, the coolant is treated to remove ions which extends nozzle life even more. Further cooling fluid treatment for even further nozzle life includes dissolved gas removal and heat removal.
