摘要: 1,049,752. Making heat exchangers; soldering. S.A. DES USINES CHAUSSON. June 21, 1963 [July 9, 1962], No. 24814/63. Headings B3A and B3R. A method of making a heat exchanger comprises assembling tinned fins to tinned tubes, fitting a lower collector having flanged apertures over the ends of the tubes, expanding the tubes therein, pickling the assembly in a flux bath, tilting the assembly to remove excess flux therefrom by gravity or an air jet applied thereto, differentially heating the vertically disposed assembly by passing it through successive preheating and soldering chambers which extend to half the height of the assembly to effect soldering of the lower half thereof, air cooling the assembly, turning it through 180 degrees, attaching the upper collector to the tubes and differentially applying heat to the upper half thereof to effect soldering as before followed by accelerated cooling. The collector may be coated with soldering material by steeping in a bath or by an atomized spray. Alternatively, a thin perforated sheet of material may be inserted between the tubes and collector flanges on assembly. Hot air jets and one or more jet burners may be housed in the chambers to effect heating of the fin and tube portions and the collector respectively to effect soldering thereof. A blower unit may be positioned at the exit of each chamber to remove excess solder. The operations are preferably conveyerized with the process line having an in-line, looped or L1-shaped layout.

摘要: 1,075,004. Welding by pressure. ETABLISSEMENTS SANDRET. Feb. 5, 1965 [Feb. 19, 1964], No. 5220/65. Heading B3R. In a method of welding heat-dissipating wires 3 to a flat superpentine condenser coil 2 the coil 2 is arranged vertically and raised intermittently and wires 3 are welded transversely to both sides of the coil 2 by electrodes 15, 16 at each pause. An apparatus for carrying out the method comprises stores 8 from which are vibrated the wires 3 to a support 11. Suction nozzles 12 pick up individual wires 3 and drop them down surfaces 14 ready for welding by the electrodes 15, 16. Pusher-members 27, controlled by lever 31 and cam 33, raise the coil 2 by means of sawteeth 28 which lifts on the recently welded wires 3 and holds the coil while another wire is welded. The electrodes hold the coil 2 while the saw-teeth are lowered and sprung through the newly welded wires ready to raise the coil again. The electrodes are moved in sequence by cams 17, 18 against springs 25, 26 and are fed with welding current by a contact-maker actuated by a cam or other suitable means. The coil 2 carries along its top a carriage 37 that runs along vertical rails. A switch is arranged in a frame at the top of the apparatus which is automatically operated by the carriage 37 to stop the apparatus when the coil is fully raised. A magnetic retaining device is used to hold the carriage 37 in its raised position to facilitate the removal of a completed coil and the replacement of a new coil.

摘要: 1,122,223. Brazing. STEWART-WARNER CORP. 13 Aug., 1965 [14 Aug., 1964], No. 34815/65. Heading B3R. A heat exchanger assembly comprises a side bar member, and a plate member and a brazing alloy between the members carried by one member adjacent the other member, regions for accommodation of molten flux being defined between the alloy and the other member to extend from opposite edges of the side bar member and each region being terminated short of the edge of the side bar member other than the edge from which it extends. Aluminium or aluminium alloy heat exchanger side bars 12, Fig. 1, connected by dove tails 14 to form rectangular frame members are provided by striking or pressing with grooves 24, 26 from opposite side edges flanked by ridges above the surface. The side bars are assembled sandwich fashion with aluminium or aluminium alloy plate 18 coated on both sides with aluminium based alloy containing Si, Cu, Fe, Zn and possibly Mn and Mg. Corrugated members 22 are provided between the plates 18. The assembly is immersed in molten flux, 4-6% aluminium fluoride and 12-25% lithium chloride to melt the brazing alloy which flows and fills the grooves. In a modification the side bars are not grooved but are provided with convex upper and lower surfaces 72, Fig. 4. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 971,889.
