摘要： In an internal combustion engine with two or more inlet valves for each engine cylinder and roof-shaped boundary surfaces of the combustion chamber in the cylinder head--the main flow directions of the partial streams admitted into the combustion chamber by the inlet valves each forming an acute angle with the plane defined by the cylinder axes of a cylinder bank, i.e., the symmetry plane--, a strong torque of the charge in the combustion chamber is obtained at partial load without impairing the intake of charge at full load due to a deterioration of flow characteristics, by providing that the angle of at least one partial stream on one side of a plane going through the cylinder axis and being normal to the symmetry plane, be made larger by 10 to 40 degrees than the angle of at least one corresponding partial stream on the other side of this normal plane.

摘要： In a cooling system for a multi-cylinder engine, a main gallery is provided around outer peripheral portions of the plurality of cylinder bores upstream a block-side coolant jacket to commonly surround the cylinder bores, and an upstream coolant gallery is provided between the block-side coolant jacket and the main coolant gallery to separately surround each of outer peripheries of the cylinder bores. The upstream coolant gallery and the main coolant gallery is in communication with each other through a constriction communication passage provided around the outer periphery of each of the cylinder bores, and the upstream coolant gallery is further in communication with an upstream end of the block-side coolant jacket. The cooling system further includes a block-side and flange-surrounding coolant gallery provided in the cylinder block to surround an outer periphery of the outward flange of a cylinder liner, and a plurality of dispensing passages permitting the communication between said block-side coolant jacket and said flange-surrounding coolant gallery. Further, a jacket sidewall is disposed in the cylinder head inside at least one of opposite outside walls in an axial direction of a crank shaft to define a head-side coolant jacket.

摘要： A V-shaped cylinder block for a V-type engine includes a main oil gallery elongating in an axial direction of a crank shaft; a subordinate oil gallery elongating in the axial direction thereof; a linkage passage interconnecting the main oil gallery to the subordinate oil gallery; a first feed passage feeding oil from the subordinate oil gallery to a predetermined crank journaling portion disposed at least on one side of the cylinder block in the axial direction thereof without passing through the main oil gallery; a second feed passage feeding a lubricating oil from the main oil gallery to the crank journaling portions other than the predetermined crank journaling portion; and a pump chamber having a rotary shaft disposed in parallel to the crank shaft. The main oil gallery disposed in a middle portion between the left-hand and the right-hand banks and at a position above the crank chamber, the main oil gallery being in a length elongating in the axial direction thereof and failing to reach the predetermined crank journaling portion. The subordinate oil gallery is disposed on an outer side portion of the left-hand and right-hand banks. The pump chamber is disposed at one end portion of the cylinder block in the axial direction thereof and formed on an imaginary line extending from the main oil gallery.

摘要： A method of casting-in-place iron cylinder liners in light alloy, preferably aluminum, engine blocks is made possible by a cylinder liner insert comprising at least two generally cylindrical cylinder liners which are joined together along aligned portions of the liners in a "semi-siamese" fashion. The cylinder liners are joined at the lower ends of the liners with the upper combustion ends remaining independent and unattached. Alternately, narrow ribs can be formed at or arched above the upper ends of the liners to join and stabilize the upper ends of the liners during cylinder block casting operations, with such ribs ultimately being machined off during block finishing operations.

摘要： A cylinder-head gasket comprises a metal core plate having two faces and formed with a plurality of cylinder holes, an annular groove of a predetermined depth around each cylinder hole on one of the plate faces, a plurality of stud holes, and a plurality of lubricant/coolant holes. This plate is normally made of stainless steel, a specialty steel, or a steel with a special surface treatment or coating. A resilient seal normally made of a fluorocarbon or silicone is provided on each of the core-plate faces around the lubricant/coolant holes. A cylinder plate of a thickness greater than the groove depth forms respective cylinder rings of the plate thickness sitting in the grooves around each of the cylinder holes. This cylinder plate is normally of a stainless or specialty steel also.

摘要： A cylinder head cover wherein the pan-shaped metallic body has a marginal portion with a groove for a portion of a gasket which is formed on the marginal portion prior to attachment of the cover to the cylinder head of an internal combustion engine. The underside of the marginal portion is coated with one or more layers of a coupling agent and a mold is placed over the marginal portion to define therewith an endless cavity which receives a supply of plasticized silicon rubber at an elevated temperature. The injected material is then heated to vulcanization temperature and is thereupon allowed or caused to set by cooling so that it forms an elastic sealing ring which is bonded to the marginal portion of the cover by the coupling agent. The mold is then removed from the marginal portion and the cover is secured to the cylinder head by fasteners which extend through the bottom wall of the pan-shaped body and are surrounded by noise-damping elastic sealing rings.
