    摘要: The optical time division multiplexer generates a time-division-multiplexed optical signal by time-division-multiplexing optical signals of a plurality of channels, the carrier-wave phases of which are shifted with respect to one another. The circulator guides the multiplexed optical signals split by the optical splitter to the optical interference device and the superimposed light outputted from the optical interference device is guided to the optical intensity detector. The optical interference device extends the pulse width of the multiplexed optical signal to a width equal to or more than the bit interval and superimposes the extended light of an adjacent bit onto the extended light. The optical intensity detector detects the intensity of the superimposed light outputted by the optical interference device. The temperature regulator controls the temperature of the modulator so that the phase difference of the carrier waves constituting the optical signal trains is to be a half wavelength.

    摘要: Embodiments include devices and methods for wavelength filtering. For example, one embodiment includes a display comprising a plurality of the display elements each comprising a movable reflector, a first partial reflector, and a second partial reflector. The first partial reflector is positioned at a first distance from the movable reflector and forms a first optical resonant cavity therebetween. The second partial reflector is positioned at a second distance from said first partial reflector and forming a second optical resonant cavity therebetween. In various embodiments, the movable reflector is movable with respect to the first partial reflector to alter the first optical cavity. Other embodiments include a method of making devices.

    摘要: Cascaded waveguide sensors with different sensitivities to temperature and strain produce independent temperature and strain measurements. In one embodiment a first sensor is formed of a first optical material having a corresponding first sensible thermomechanical response and a second sensor is formed of a second optical material having a corresponding second sensible thermomechanical response. The first and second thermomechanical responses are sufficiently different so as to produce independent temperature and strain measurements. Particular embodiments employ intrinsic or extrinsic Fabry-Perot interferometers (IFP, EFP),sensors, in-line fiber etalon (ILFE) sensor and a fiber-optic Bragg grating.

A signal collection means combines the plurality of intensity modulated optical signals into a combined optical signal. A conducting means conducts the combined optical signal to a signal distribution means which distributes the combined optical signal to each of a plurality of output ports. A demultiplexer means extracts from a portion of one of the distributed combined optical signals an output RF signal substantially identical to a predetermined one of the plurality of RF input signals.

    摘要: A delay line interferometer comprising an optical waveguide having a distributed Bragg reflector, e.g. Bragg grating, fabricated therein. The distributed Bragg reflector has a refractive index modulation with a period variation Λ(z) along its length z that is arranged to output in transmission an output optical signal fout(t) in response to a input optical signal fin(t), wherein the output optical signal fout(t) is the result of temporal interference between one or more time-delayed replicas of the input optical signal fin(t). In other words, the distributed Bragg reflector is operable to generate and permit temporal interference between two or more time-delayed replicas of the input optical signal fin(t). The invention may thus mimic the behaviour of one or more MZIs.
