    摘要: A novel method of determining the onset of the fertile period of a human female is disclosed comprising the step of monitoring the axillary secretions of said female during the course of her menstrual cycle to determine variations in the concentration of androstenol or dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate. A first significant increase in the concentration of either of those compounds following the cessation of menses is indicative of the onset of the fertile period. In each case, a follicular phase peak occurs which exceeds by at least twice the concentration of those compounds present at any other time during the menstrual cycle. As a result, the monitoring of these compounds may act as reliable indicators predicting the occurrence of ovulation in five to seven days, and/or indicating the onset of the fertile period at a time when appropriate contraceptive measures can still be taken to avoid pregnancy or sexual intercourse can promote fertility.

    摘要: Fertility in females, especially human females, is evaluated by contacting a mucin-containing body fluid such as saliva with a fertility evaluation medium comprising an anthocyanin pigment and a substrate which facilitates generation of a color response in the pigment, in the presence of vaginal fluid or substances similar to those found in the vaginal fluid, especially ascorbic acid and sugars. A resulting color change in the fertility evaluation medium can be used to determine whether the female is not fertile at that time, whether fertility is imminent in the female, or whether the female actually is fertile.

    摘要: A quantitative process for monitoring female fertility cycle wherein the process involves directing a laser beam, preferably generated by a diode laser, onto an area of a slide containing an air-dried sample of a female body fluid. The diffraction pattern resulting from the sample is detected by a two-dimensional photo diode array and analyzed by a microprocessor. If a ferning pattern exists, such pattern will generate a characteristic structure in the diffraction pattern which is then detected by the photo diode array. If no ferning occurs, the corresponding diffraction pattern will be structureless. The microprocessor is programmed with an algorithm to produce a quantitative index of ferning indicating quantitatively the ferning level. Preferably, a plurality of spots on the sample are measured to determine the ferning level at each spot, and the microprocessor then makes a final determination as to final ferning level on the basis of the test results of all of the spots. This significantly increases the reliability of the final test result, since a defect at one test spot or anomaly of one test result will not be fatal to the final result.

Amino acid residues in the region of the N-terminus of the glycoprotein share amino acid sequence identity with a region of tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1). A method of screening for endometriosis is disclosed by detection of lower levels of the protein or TIMP-1 in peritoneal fluid or serum samples of women.
