A protective coating for protecting a surface has a liquid applied coating having 100% solids and zero solvents and/or zero volatile organic compounds. The resulting protective coating may be clear or transparent to visible light. The liquid applied coating has two or more components that is applied to a surface as a liquid and cured in place to form a solid coating. The liquid applied coating may be cast onto a surface after mixing and spread on the surface to a final desired thickness. The liquid applied coating has a polyurea or polyurethane, or a hybrid polyurea-polyurethane. The polymeric resin system may have dendrimers or hyperbranched polyol or polyamine raw materials in the formulation. The protective coating optionally contains no polyaspartic amines.

A corrosion resistant, electrically-conductive, durable plate at least partially coated with an anchor coating and a corrosion resistant coating. The corrosion resistant coating made of at least a polymer and a plurality of corrosion resistant particles each having a surface area between about 1-20 m2/g and a diameter less than about 10 microns. Preferably, the plate is used as a bipolar plate in a proton exchange membrane (PEMFC) fuel cell stack.

The present invention has for its object to provide an emulsion polymer resin composition adapted to give a coating film having an excellent appearance in terms of gloss, image sharpness, and apparent thickness, be satisfactory in curability and storage stability, contribute to cost reduction, express satisfactory coating film properties such as hardness, high impact resistance, scratch resistance, acid rain resistance, and weather resistance, and be conducive to a reduced VOC level, a curable composition comprising the above emulsion polymer resin composition and a crosslinking agent, and a cured coating film formed from the above curable composition. The present invention is an emulsion polymer resin composition which contains a hydroxyl group and a functional group reactive with the hydroxyl group within the same particle and has a weight average molecular weight of not less than 10000 but not more than 500000.

The present invention relates to a unique hard coating that provides the necessary characteristics for flat panel display plastic substrates because the coating is amorphous and is comprised of C, H, Si and O. The coating of the present invention is hard, optically transparent, scratch and abrasion resistant and hydrophobic. It is deposited by a low density, low temperature plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) process and exhibits excellent barrier protection and reduced permeability to moisture, oxygen, helium and other vapors.

The invention relates to a coating composition for PVC sections, based on a polymeric vehicle, a crosslinking agent, and a thermoplastic resin powder. The coating composition is particularly useful for coating PVC sections for windows, shutters, and doors. PVC joinery coated with the composition of the invention has exceptional impact strength and resistance to abrasion, friction, and inclement weather.

In a method for coating a substrate, preferably a cellulosic substrate, an aqueous coating comprising a polymer having carbonyl functional moities may be tandem coated directly onto or beneath an UV cured coating. The method provides a low VOC system which offers good adhesion between the two coatings.
