Abstract: An electric motor generator system has a hollow rotatable shaft, a coil spar, and a plurality of magnet portions. The hollow rotatable shaft has a central longitudinal axis. The coil spar comprises one or more coil assemblies and is positioned concentrically within the hollow rotatable shaft. Each of the magnet portions is shaped to conform to a radially inwardly facing surface of the shaft. Each of the plurality of magnet portions abuts conformally against the radially inwardly facing surface of the shaft between the radially inwardly facing surface and the or each coil assembly.

Abstract: A gas turbine engine and a blisk are disclosed, including methods of making the same. The blisk may include a disk, spars of airfoils, platforms, and shanks of airfoils integrally formed as a unit. Such blisk features may be integrally formed by a casting process or additive manufacturing. The blisk includes cooled airfoils, such that the spar is hollow, and a cover panel is bonded to an outer surface of standoffs to define passages between the cover panel and the spar. Cooling air is fed to the hollow spar through a cooling feed channel defined in the disk or shank portion.

Abstract: An electric propulsion system is described that includes at least one branch for distributing electrical power, provided by a power source, to one or more loads. The at least one branch is partitioned into one or more zones and comprises a plurality of branch isolation devices that are configured to isolate the at least one branch from the power source in response to a fault current at the at least one branch. In addition, the at least one branch comprises a respective pair of zone isolation devices for each respective zone from the one or more zones. The respective pair of zone isolation devices for each respective zone is configured to isolate the respective zone from the at least one branch, during a test of the at least one branch for identifying which of the one or more zones is a source of the fault current.

Abstract: The disclosure is directed to delivering power to and communication with optical devices, such as sensors and effectors using only optical fibers. The device may receive optical energy from a fiber optic cable simultaneously with receiving communication in the form of inverse signaling. Inverse signaling means the light is on for longer than the light is off which may allow the device may receive more optical energy than when using normal signaling. Normal signaling means the light is off for longer than the light is on. The device may perform sensing or other functions using the received optical energy. The device may send communications through at least one optical fiber that may be separate from the one or more optical fibers from which the device receives communication and optical energy. The device may send communication using normal signaling, which uses less energy than inverse signaling.

Abstract: A geared architecture for a gas turbine comprising an output shaft for connection with a fan, an input shaft and a gearbox connecting the input shaft with the output shaft. The gearbox has a forward planet carrier plate supported by a forward radially fixed bearing structure and a rearward planet carrier plate supported by a rearward radially fixed bearing structure. By supporting the carrier plates on radially fixed bearing structures the planet carriers can rotate about their own axis to lower vibration and mesh forces within the gearbox.
