A catalyst system comprising the product obtained by contacting (a) a solid catalyst component containing Mg, Ti, halogen and at least an electron donor compound selected from diolesters of a specific formula (b) an alkylaluminum cocatalyst and (c) an ester of formula R′OOC—(CR″2)m—COOR′ in which m is an integer from 2 to 8, the R′ groups, equal to or different from each other, are C1-C10 alkyl groups and the R″ groups, independently, are hydrogen or C1-C15 hydrocarbon groups.

A polyolefin composition, and pipe systems and sheets made therefrom, the composition comprising (percent by weight), 1) 10-60% of a copolymer of propylene and hexene-1 comprising from 0.2 to 10% of recurring units derived from hexene-1; 2) 10-85% of a propylene polymer selected from propylene homopolymer and a polymer of propylene with 0.1-10% of an α-olefin selected from ethylene, a C4-C10 a-olefin, hexene-1 excluded, and a mixture thereof, the propylene polymer being insoluble in xylene at ambient temperature in an amount over 85% and having a Polydispersity Index ranging from 4.5 to 12; and 3) 5-30% of a copolymer of ethylene with a C3-C10 α-olefin and optionally a diene, having an ethylene content ranging from 15 to 60% and an intrinsic viscosity value of at least 1 dl/g.

A propylene polymer composition comprising (percent by weight): A) 68%-80%, of a propylene homopolymer having a Polydispersity Index (P.I.) value of from 4.7 to 10 and MFR L (Melt Flow Rate according to ISO 1133, condition L, i.e. 230° C. and 2.16 kg load) from 10 to 30 g/10 min; B) 20%-32%, of a copolymer of propylene containing from 40.1% to 42.5% extremes included of ethylene derived units; the composition having an intrinsic viscosity of the fraction soluble in xylene at 25° C. comprised between 3 and 6 dl/g and a MFR L from 4 to 12 g/10 min Said Propylene polymer composition being particularly suitable for injection moulded articles having high rigidity and high impact properties at room and at low temperatures.

A process for introducing a catalyst powder based on a titanium compound supported on magnesium halide into a gas-phase olefin polymerization reactor, characterized in that it comprises: (a) storing the catalyst powder under an atmosphere of a liquid C3-C12 alkane; (b) withdrawing from step (a) a measured amount of said catalyst powder by means of a rotary valve; (c) transferring said metered amount of catalyst powder to a catalyst activation section by a continuous pick-up flow of a liquid C3-C12 alkane; (d) contacting the catalyst powder with a liquid phase comprising an organo-aluminum compound and optionally an external donor compound, at a temperature ranging from −20° C. to 60° C.; (e) introducing the activated catalyst powder in one or more gas-phase olefin polymerization reactors, where a gaseous mixture comprising at least one alpha-olefin is subjected to polymerization.

A process for the preparation of propylene polymer compositions comprising from 50 to 90% by weight of a propylene polymer fraction insoluble in xylene at 25° C., and from 10 to 50% by weight of an ethylene copolymer fraction soluble in xylene at 25° C., said process being carried out in the presence of a specific catalyst system, is also characterized by the following step:(i) contacting the catalyst components (a), (b) and optionally (c) for a period of time ranging from 0.1 to 120 minutes, at a temperature ranging from 0 to 90° C.;(ii) polymerizing propylene in the optional presence of ethylene and/or C4-C10 alpha olefins producing a propylene (co)polymer being for at least 85% by weight of insoluble in xylene at 25° C. and(iii) in a successive step, carried out in gas-phase, in the presence of the product coming from (ii), polymerizing mixtures of ethylene with a-olefins CH2═CHR in which R is a hydrocarbon radical having 1-10 carbon atoms, to produce an ethylene copolymer. An increased reactivity in the last step is observed.
