Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for making smart cards capable of operating with or without contact called mixed cards and contactless smart cards. In order to avoid the risk of deteriorating the antenna the method consists in producing an antenna comprising at least two turns, on a support sheet, said antenna having its turns located outside the connecting pads, and in providing an insulating bridge so as to connect each of the antenna ends to a connection pad respectively.
Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for producing a cross-sectional angular surface along a substrate, such as a flexible electrostatographic imaging member belt. The apparatus may include a support body, and a blade support member connected to the blade support body. The blade support member comprises a cutting blade having a straight blade edge. The cutting blade may be positioned at an angle relative to a plane of an associated substrate to be cut.
Abstract:
A milling device is disclosed for the preparation of microscopy specimens or other surface science applications through the use of ion bombardment. The device provides the ability to utilize both gross and fine modification of the specimen surface through the use of high and low energy ion sources. Precise control of the location of the specimen within the impingement beams created by the ion sources provides the ability to tilt and rotate the specimen with respect thereto. Locational control also permits the translocation of the specimen between the various sources under programmatic control and under consistent vacuum conditions. A load lock mechanism is also provided to permit the introduction of specimens into the device without loss of vacuum and with the ability to return the specimen to ambient temperature during such load and unload operation. The specimen may be observed and imaged during all active phases of operation.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a heat exchanger for altering the temperature of water from a fluid circulation line of a recreational body of water. The heat exchanger includes a helical tube-in-tube assembly adapted for flow therethrough of a plurality of fluids for heat transfer therebetween, and the heat exchanger further includes a tank defining a chamber in which said helical tube-in-tube assembly is positioned. In an exemplary embodiment, the chamber is an annular chamber, and the tank includes a cylindrical wall defining an external cavity extending through said tank.
Abstract:
Devices formed of or including biocompatible polyhydroxyalkanoates are provided with controlled degradation rates, preferably less than one year under physiological conditions. Preferred devices include sutures, suture fasteners, meniscus repair devices, rivets, tacks, staples, screws (including interference screws), bone plates and bone plating systems, surgical mesh, repair patches, slings, cardiovascular patches, orthopedic pins (including bone filling augmentation material), adhesion barriers, stents, guided tissue repair/regeneration devices, articular cartilage repair devices, nerve guides, tendon repair devices, atrial septal defect repair devices, pericardial patches, bulking and filling agents, vein valves, bone marrow scaffolds, meniscus regeneration devices, ligament and tendon grafts, ocular cell implants, spinal fusion cages, skin substitutes, dural substitutes, bone graft substitutes, bone dowels, wound dressings, and hemostats. The polyhydroxyalkanoates can contain additives, be formed of mixtures of monomers or include pendant groups or modifications in their backbones, or can be chemically modified, all to alter the degradation rates. The polyhydroxyalkanoate compositions also provide favorable mechanical properties, biocompatibility, and degradation times within desirable time frames under physiological conditions.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of decreasing, inhibiting, or preventing vascular calcification in subjects by administering IL-1 inhibitors. IL-1 inhibitors useful in this invention include anakinra, IL-1 antibodies, IL-1 RI antibodies, IL-1 trap molecules, soluble IL-1 receptors, and anti-IL-1/IL-1R peptides and peptibodies.

The present invention relates to methods for treating or preventing intestinal fluid balance disorders and modulating intestinal fluid secretion and absorption using calcimimetics and calcilytics.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the portable antenna positioner described provide a lightweight, collapsible and rugged antenna positioner for use in receiving low earth orbit, geostationary and geosynchronous satellite transmissions. By collapsing the antenna positioner, it may be readily carried by one person or shipped in a compact container. The antenna positioner may be used in remote locations with simple or automated setup and orientation. In order to operate the apparatus, azimuth is adjusted by rotating an antenna in relation to a positioner base and elevation is adjusted by rotating an elevation motor coupled with the antenna. The apparatus may update ephemeris data via satellite, may comprise a built-in receiver and may couple with a second positioner base comprising cryptographic, router or power functionality. The apparatus may comprise storage devices such as a hard drive or flash disk for storing data to and from at least one satellite.
Abstract:
There is provided an apparatus for producing a cross-sectional angular surface along a substrate, such as a flexible electrostatographic imaging member belt, comprising a cutting blade that is angled at an angle of less than 90° relative to a plane of an associated substrate to be cut. An apparatus may include a support body, and a blade support member connected to the blade support body. The blade support member comprises a cutting blade having a blade edge. The cutting blade may be positioned, in some embodiments, at an angle of less than 45°, and in other embodiments from about 5° to about 15° relative to a plane of an associated substrate to be cut. The cutting assembly may be used to form a sloping surface on each of first and second marginal end regions of a substrate, such as a flexible electrostatographic imaging member belt, wherein the second sloping surface is substantially parallel with the first new sloping surface. A seamed, flexible electrostatographic imaging member belt may be produced by forming the sheet into a loop and overlapping said first new sloping surface with said second new sloping surface to form a mated region; and, joining said first new sloping surface to said second new sloping surface in the mated region to form a thin profile butt-lap seam.
