Abstract:
A fastening system including a fastener and a fastener installation tool. The fastener includes a pin member having an elongated shank portion with a threaded portion, a stop shoulder located at an end of the threaded portion, and a pull portion extending from the stop shoulder. The stop shoulder includes an inner annular wall extending longitudinally from the end of the threaded portion, and an inner face extending outwardly and obliquely from the shank portion. The inner annular wall and the inner face form an annular receiving area. The fastener installation tool includes a puller having a front face. The receiving area of the fastener is adapted to receive the front face of the fastener installation tool when the puller engages the pull portion of the pin member.

Various methods are disclosed for additively manufacturing a feedstock material to create an AM preform, wherein the AM preform is configured with a body having an internal passage defined therein, wherein the internal passage further includes at least one of a void and a channel; inserting a filler material into the internal passage of the AM preform; closing the AM preform with an enclosure component such that the filler material is retained within the internal passage of the AM preform; and deforming the AM preform to a sufficient amount to create a product having an internal passage therein, wherein the product is configured with wrought properties for that material via the deforming step.

A fastener installation tool includes a nose assembly, first and second cylinders, first and second pistons, and a yoke. The nose assembly is adapted to apply an axial load to a fastener along a longitudinal axis of the nose assembly. The first and second cylinders are diametrically opposed to one another with respect to the longitudinal axis of the nose assembly. The first piston is disposed within the first cylinder and is movable along a longitudinal axis thereof. The second piston is disposed within the second cylinder and is movable along a longitudinal axis thereof. The yoke connects the first piston, the second piston, and the nose assembly such that motion of one of the pistons along its corresponding longitudinal axis causes motion of the other one of the pistons along its corresponding longitudinal axis and motion of at least a portion of the nose assembly along its longitudinal axis.
Abstract:
A composite construction for windows and doors has one or more components of the frame and/or window unit fabricated as a composite having a structural foam intermediate member onto which exterior and interior aluminum extrusions are mechanically and adhesively attached. The foam member functions as a structural bridge between the extrusions, as a thermal break and may also provide support for an internal seal to prevent air infiltration.

The application is directed towards methods for purifying an aluminum feedstock material. A method provides: (a) feeding an aluminum feedstock into a cell (b) directing an electric current into an anode through an electrolyte and into a cathode, wherein the anode comprises an elongate vertical anode, and wherein the cathode comprises an elongate vertical cathode, wherein the anode and cathode are configured to extend into the electrolyte zone, such that within the electrolyte zone the anode and cathode are configured with an anode-cathode overlap and an anode-cathode distance; and producing some purified aluminum product from the aluminum feedstock.
Abstract:
A pre-formed insert with stable dimensions for mechanical insertion into a hollow member and that reduces the Nusselt number and convection across the hollow member. The insert may be formed of a low heat conducting material like PVC and have extensions and internal voids that impede convection in the hollow and conduction through the insert. The inserts may be used in heads and sills of aluminum windows, doors and frames. In one embodiment, an insert is received in an open hollow and may cooperate with an insert in a frame hollow to decrease convection at the head end of a sliding window or door. An insert may be placed within the hollow of a window or door beside a roller assembly.
Abstract:
New 7xxx aluminum alloy bodies and methods of producing the same are disclosed. The new 7xxx aluminum alloy bodies may be produced by preparing the aluminum alloy body for post-solutionizing cold work, cold working by at least 25%, and then thermally treating. The new 7xxx aluminum alloy bodies may realize improved strength and other properties.

A knockout has a support surface and the support surface has: (i) a first knockout outer diameter capable of supporting the first inner diameter of a container side wall when the knockout is inserted into an opening of the metal container and when the metal container is being necked with a necking die; and (ii) a second knockout outer diameter capable of supporting the second inner diameter of the container side wall when the knockout is inserted into the opening of the metal container and when the metal container is being necked with the necking die, and wherein the first knockout outer diameter is larger than the second knockout outer diameter.
Abstract:
Improved aluminum casting alloys having are disclosed. The new aluminum casting alloys generally include manganese, zinc, and zirconium. In this regard, the new aluminum casting alloys generally include from 2.0 to 5.0 wt. % Mn, 1.0-4.5 wt. % Zn, and from 0.05 to 0.9 wt. % Zr, the balance being aluminum, optional secondary elements, iron and silicon impurities, and other elements, where the new aluminum casting alloy includes not greater than 0.15 wt. % each of the other elements, and where the new aluminum casting alloy included not greater than 0.50 wt. % in total of the other elements.
