Abstract:
Systems and methods for data transport, including submarine reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexers, branching units configured to receive signals from trunk terminals (TTs), and dummy light filters configured to pass useful signals through the filters, and to reflect dummy light. Optical interleavers are configured to separate useful signals into two or more groups of optical channels, and the optical channels are set to a frequency of either a left or a right portion of a total channel bandwidth. De-interleavers merge signal groups together from trunk terminals, and lasers at each of the transponders at the source terminals are configured to adjust a destination of a channel by fine tuning a frequency or wavelength of the one or more signals.

Abstract:
A method and system for optical angular momentum (OAM) spectroscopy includes generating a beam of light having a single OAM mode. A first spectrum of the beam of light is detected and the beam of light is passed through a gas to attenuate the beam of light in accordance with a presence and concentration of a respective gas. A second spectrum the beam of light is coherently detected and a difference between the first and second spectrum for the beam of light is analyzed to determine the presence and concentration of the respective gas.

A method and system for remote sensing using optical orbital angular momentum (OAM)-based spectroscopy for lateral motion detection. The method includes applying an OAM mode on a light beam to generate an OAM light beam, the OAM light beam having an optical OAM spectrum, applying an OAM optical beam tilt on the OAM light beam to generate a tilted OAM light beam, transmitting the tilted OAM light beam on a remote object, such that the remote object interacts with the tilted OAM light beam, receiving a reflected OAM spectrum associated with the remote object, the reflected OAM spectrum having power values of OAM modes on opposite sides of an OAM launch mode, and displaying lateral motion of the remote object based on the reflected OAM spectrum by comparing the power values.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for data transport, including encoding streams of input data using generalized low-density parity check (GLDPC) encoders, the one or more GLDPC encoders being configured to generate GLDPC coded data streams using a plurality of component local codes to improve error correction strength, employ single-parity checks and two or more local block codes during generation of the GLDPC codes, and enable continuous tuning of code rate using the generated GLDPC codes. Signals may be generated using mappers, the mappers configured to assign bits of signals to signal constellations and to associate the bits of the signals with signal constellation points. The signal may be modulated using an I/Q or 4-D modulator composed of one polarization beam splitter, two I/Q modulators, and one polarization beam combiner. The modulated signals are multiplexed using a mode-multiplexer, transmitted over a transmission medium, and the signals are received and decoded using GLDPC decoders.

Systems and methods for optical communication are disclosed that include communicating data using one or more transceiver pairs coupled to a spatial-multiplexer (S-MUX); performing bi-directional transmissions over an elliptical core optical fiber to a spatial-demultiplexer (S-DEMUX) using spatial modes to communicate data in either direction between two transceiver pairs with low crosstalk and without optical circulators or wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM); and communicating data from the S-DEMUX with g one or more transceiver pairs.
Abstract:
Data is routed in a mesh network of devices that can communicate wirelessly through a plurality of technologies. One or more of such devices receive broadcast message(s) from a destination device intended to receive the data, and generate a first radio link quality metric (RLQM) value based on the broadcast message(s). A source device originates and delivers a quantum of data with an embedded first RLQM value. A set of intermediate devices relays the quantum of data if a forwarding criterion is fulfilled; the forwarding criterion is based in part on the first RLQM value and a second RLQM value generated by an intermediate device in the set of intermediate devices based on the broadcast message(s). The intermediate device exploits an optical interface to transmit the quantum of data. The destination device broadcasts an acknowledgement signal in response to receiving intended data.

A multi direction variable transceiver including a transmitter comprising a subcarrier aggregator including at least one variable transmitter splitter and at least one variable transmitter coupler. The transceiver typically includes a receiver having at least one variable receiver splitter and at least one variable receiver coupler. In some examples, each of the transmitter and the receiver may include a controller for dynamically adjusting a splitting ratio for at least one of the variable receiver splitter, variable receiver coupler, variable transmission splitter and variable transmission coupler.
Abstract:
The invention uses a PRBS pattern generated by transmitter (serializer) as training. At the receiver side, following receiver outputs, a synchronous capturing module is used to capture multiple lanes simultaneously. The captured data is used to calculate the PRBS distance for different lanes. After the distances are obtained, the one with largest latency is used as a reference, to calculate the relative latency with each other lane. This relative latency is further used to calculate the number of shifts for Barrel Shifter and word shifter.
