Abstract:
A marketing system includes a plurality of automated transaction machines (74, 76, 78, 80, 82, 84, 86). The automated transaction machines operate to carry out financial transactions with associated host computers (90, 94, 100, 104). Marketing presentations are stored on and output from the transaction machines responsive to messages exchanged with a market message server (110) which is connected to the automated transaction machines through a network (108). The connection to the automated transaction machines, which provides delivery of the market presentation materials and which causes the output of presentations, is generally independent of the messages associated with authorizing financial transactions. Some described embodiments of the invention enable presenting marketing campaigns to users of the transaction machines. The marketing campaigns may include sequences of presentations that are output on a targeted basis to particular users.
Abstract:
A safety hat with an adjustable visor has a crown and a visor mounted in front of the crown. Two positioning holes are defined in two sides of the crown and multiple first teeth are formed around each positioning hole. A plurality of rods is mounted in an inner wall of the crown with a lug formed at a top of a body of each rod. Two holes are defined in the arcuate wall to receive the rods of the crown. Two buttons each with a stub are provided in the arcuate wall. By pressing the buttons, the inclination of the visor relative to the crown can be changed, and the position of crown is not changed.
Abstract:
Various high-strength microwave antenna assemblies are described herein. The microwave antenna has a radiating portion connected by a feedline to a power generating source, e.g., a generator. The antenna is a dipole antenna with the distal end of the radiating portion being tapered and terminating at a tip to allow for direct insertion into tissue. Antenna rigidity comes from placing distal and proximal radiating portions in a pre-stressed state, assembling them via threaded or overlapping joints, or fixedly attaching an inner conductor to the distal portion. The inner conductor is affixed to the distal portion by, e.g., welding, brazing, soldering, or by adhesives. A junction member made from a hard dielectric material, e.g., ceramic, can be placed between the two portions and can have uniform or non-uniform shapes to accommodate varying antenna designs. Electrical chokes may also be used to contain returning currents to the distal end of the antenna.
Abstract:
A phone-interface device receives a wireless signal from a control panel. The wireless signal encodes information regarding a system condition that has occurred in a facility. The phone-interface device communicates the system condition to a monitoring station. The phone-interface device receives its electrical power from the telephone line or from an energy storage device. In another aspect, the phone-interface device receives a provisional-alarm signal command from a control panel. The phone-interface device determines whether a disarm command has been received from the control panel. When a disarm command has not been received before expiration of a period of time, the phone-interface devices sends an alarm condition to a monitoring station.
Abstract:
A self-propelled watercraft is disclosed, wherein the watercraft includes a body made at least partially of a polymer material, the body including a surface and at least one of a deck and a hull, wherein the watercraft includes an item of outfitting welded to the surface of the body. Methods of manufacturing a self-propelled watercraft are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A connector assembly for optically coupling a first optical waveguide array mounted to a first substrate to an optical device on an intersecting second substrate. The first waveguide array includes a plurality of parallel optical waveguides having a minimum desired bend radius. The first and the second substrate define a first and a second plane respectively and the longitudinal direction of the first waveguide array defines a first axis. The intersection of the two planes defines an intersection axis that is generally perpendicular to the first axis. The first waveguide array has a substrate portion mounted to the first substrate, a midspan portion, and an end portion. The connector assembly includes a first connector adapted to be detachably connected to the second substrate and aligned along a second axis generally perpendicular to the intersection axis. The first connector has a first retaining mechanism that receives and retains the end portion of the first optical waveguide array, where the end portion is suspended over the first plane at a distance along the second axis that is at least equal to the minimum desired bend radius. The midspan portion of the second optical waveguide array describes a suspended bend curve between the first and the second plane, the suspended bend curve having a bend radius that is equal to or greater than the desired minimum bend radius.
Abstract:
Parallel optical coupling apparatus for coupling a connector attached to one end of a parallel optical cable to a receiver or transmitter array. A parallel fiber optic assembly includes a receiver or transmitter array subassembly that houses a parallel optical coupler for transferring optical signals from an array of sources (e.g., lasers) in the assembly to the connector, or from the connector to an array of receiving elements in the assembly. A connector shell is provided that properly aligns the connector with respect to the optical coupler array.
Abstract:
A bonded wafer 100 has a device substrate 16 with isolation trenches 30 defining device regions 18. Oxide dogbone structures are removed before filling trenches 30. Voids 36 in the trenches are spaced from the top of the trenches. The trenches are covered with an oxide layer 30 and filled with polysilicon 34. A LOCOS mask structure comprising a layer of CVD pad oxide and silicon nitride 50 cover the trenches and the adjacent device substrate regions.
Abstract:
A control jacket houses a line, such as a fiber optic ribbon cable or other conductor, and limits the amount of bending and twisting movement of the line. The jacket preferably includes a multi-dimensional matrix of engagement elements separated by a plurality of gaps and connected by an underlying web structure. As the jacket is bent or twisted, adjacent engagement elements move together into engagement with each other, limiting the bend radius or twist angle of the jacket, and thus of the fiber optic ribbon cable or other protected line. The jacket preferably includes at least one fastening mechanism, allowing the control jacket to be opened along its length for easy insertion and removal of the line as needed. Multiple jackets can be placed end-to-end along the line, to create a composite jacket of any desired length.
Abstract:
This invention proposes a multifunctional topical composition that integrates halogen-functionalized fullerenes (halo-fullerenes and halo-endofullerenes) and metallic nanoparticles (NPs) to provide comprehensive skin protection and sanitizing, cosmetic enhancement and in some embodiments, treatment for various conditions. Leveraging the atomic scale and physical characteristics of halogenated fullerenes for deeper tissue penetration, the composition can provide antioxidant, antimicrobial, and UV protective benefits to foster cellular integrity, proliferation, and differentiation as healthy tissue. The proposed formulation can penetrate the stratum corneum and diffuse into underlying skin layers due to atomic-scale NPs that can readily deliver active ingredients through the skin via the pores of sweat glands; the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum; and hair follicles, sebaceous glands, and pilosebaceous pores. This composition uses stable inorganic antibacterial agents with a robust safety profile. Furthermore, it can provide UV protection from harmful radiation. The formulation comprises active ingredients that are specific, safe, stable and effective—and can be produced economically, making it suitable for a broad range of skin protection, sanitizing, enhancement and therapeutic products that promote skin health and wellbeing.
