Abstract:
A process for producing a multi-layered article having a soft, leather-like feel comprising first introducing into a suitable mold a first liquid formulation designed to produce the top elastomeric layer on the finished article. A release agent is then applied on the elastomeric layer in the area where it is desired not to have adherence of the elastomer to the foam. Before the elastomeric layer is completely cured, a second liquid foam producing formulation, designed to produce a soft foam, is poured into the open mold. The elastomeric layer of the resulting article is integrally attached to the foam in the areas not containing the release agent.
Abstract:
An engine intake manifold assembly (10), including a first component (12) having a first mating surface (14) and a second molded plastic component (16) having a second mating surface (18). The second molded plastic component (16) is adhesively bonded to the first component (12) with an adhesive (20). The adhesive bond strength exceeds the strength of the second molded plastic component (16).

The high-density polyethylene composition of the instant invention includes a first component, and a second component. The first component is a high molecular weight ethylene alpha-olefin copolymer having a density in the range of 0.915 to 0.940 g/cm3, and a melt index (I21.6) in the range of 0.5 to 10 g/10 minutes. The second component is a low molecular weight ethylene polymer having a density in the range of 0.965 to 0.980 g/cm3, and a melt index (I2) in the range of 50 to 1500 g/10 minutes. The high-density polyethylene composition has a melt index (I2) of at least 1, a density in the range of 0.950 to 0.960 g/cm3, and g′ of 1.

Sulfonated substantially random interpolymers made from monomer components comprise from 1 to 65 mole percent of (a) at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer, or (b) at least one hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinylidene monomer, or (c) a combination of at least one vinyl or vinylidene aromatic monomer and at lest one hindered aliphatic or cycloaliphatic vinylidene monomer, and from 35 to 99 mole percent of at least one aliphatic null-olefin having from 2 to 20 carbon atoms; and optionally, from 0 to 20 mole percent of a diene containing from 4 to 20 carbon atoms; wherein the sulfonated interpolymer contains at least one mer (or moiety) of a group represented by the formula nullSO3nullM where M is hydrogen or a group 1, 7 or 12 metal in ionic form or combination thereof. Blends of these polymers with polyamides and polyolefins are made.

A wood treatment composition for the preservation of wood comprises a mixture of creosote and a polymer which is miscible with the creosote at about 200null F. and does not substantially phase-separate when the wood treatment composition is under ambient conditions. The polymer may include, but is not limited to, ethylene vinyl acetate copolymers, ethylene methyl acrylate copolymers, ethylene ethyl acrylate copolymers, ethylene butyl acrylate copolymers, ethylene acrylic acid copolymers, ethylene methacrylic acid copolymers, ethylene methyl methacrylic acid copolymers, ethylene styrene interpolymers, styrene acrylic acid copolymers, styrene methacrylic acid copolymers, styrene methyl acrylate copolymers, styrene butadiene styrene block copolymers, styrene ethylene butylene styrene block copolymers, or a blend thereof. Preferably, the creosote is present in an amount of at least 50 percent by weight of the composition. Such compositions can be used to treat wood surfaces to prolong the service life of the wood.
Abstract:
A polydiorganosiloxane having both a silicon bonded aliphatically unsaturated group and a silicon bonded poly(meth)acrylate polymer or copolymer, and method for preparation of this polydiorganosiloxane are disclosed. The method preserves the aliphatically unsaturated groups when grafting the poly(meth)acrylate to the polydiorganosiloxane. This polydiorganosiloxane is useful in hydrosilylation reaction curable compositions, such as pressure sensitive adhesive compositions.
