Abstract:
A Raman amplifier apparatus includes an optical transmission line with an input to receive an optical signal, an output that passes the optical signal, a first Raman gain fiber and a second Raman gain fiber. A first WDM is positioned between the second Raman gain fiber and the output. A first set of pump wavelengths is input to the first WDM. A second WDM is positioned between the first and second Raman gain fibers. A second set of pump wavelengths is input to the second WDM. At least a portion of the first set of pump wavelengths are different than the second set of pump wavelengths. The first and second set of pump wavelengths propagate in the same direction.
Abstract:
A method of significantly improving the brightness and shade properties of a high quality PCC product. The method includes providing a calcium containing feed source that contains discoloring impurities. The calcium containing feed source is formed into an aqueous slurry of calcium carbonate. Thereafter, the slurry is fine screened through a 325 mesh screen in order to yield a slurry of filler grade calcium carbonate. The filler grade calcium carbonate slurry is wet milled in order to liberate the discoloring impurities and reduce the median particle size of the calcium carbonate to less than 2 microns. The discoloring impurities are then magnetically separated from the milled calcium carbonate slurry by subjecting the slurry to a high intensity magnetic filed. After the magnetic separation step, the purified slurry may be de-watered to yield a dry powder; or alternatively, the slurry may be retained in aqueous form. In any event, the resultant calcium carbonate product has a median particle size of less than 2 microns and a TAPPI brightness of greater than 96.
Abstract:
A core form device including a circular plate and a plurality of bendable arms extending from the circular plate which when bent about the circular plate form the core form device.
Abstract:
A disrupter unit is used for explosive ordnance disposal by firing a slug into the ordnance to be destroyed. A method is shown to secure the disrupter unit to a sand bag or other stationary location during such firing of the disrupter unit. The present invention may also adapt the disrupter unit to shear wire, such as barbed wire, by attaching a wire cutter element to the disrupter unit through a robust cable during firing. Likewise, the disrupter unit may be used as a remote pull device or further to unearth a buried item via mechanical advantage, wherein a military shovel or another long rod is attached by a robust cable to the disrupter unit.
Abstract:
A photoacoustic detector includes first and second microphones carried by an acoustic sensing chamber. Signals from the microphones are processed using lock-in detection to increase the signal-to-noise ratio. An acoustic pressure generator can be incorporated to calibrate the microphones.
Abstract:
A photoacoustic detector wherein control circuits compensate for long term variations of components therein including a light source and sensing microphones. The control circuits intermittently energize the source to evaluate changes in at least source resistance. The control circuits intermittently energize an acoustic generator to evaluate changes in one or more generator responsive microphones.
Abstract:
A system for stimulating a nerve or nerves in a patient includes an electrode patch having an array of equally spaced concentric electrodes each having a central cathode and a concentrically surrounding anode. The electrode array patch is used to determine the location of the nerve or nerves to be stimulated by electrical pulses. Once the location of the nerve is determined, a concentric electrode patch having a central cathode and a concentrically surrounding anode is positioned at the optimal location on the patient's skin to effect neurostimulation. The concentric electrode patch may be removably affixed to the patient's skin by adhesive or magnets.
Abstract:
The present invention provides insecticidal polypeptides related to shuffled Bacillus thuringiensis Cry1 polypeptides. Nucleic acids encoding the polypeptides of the invention are also provided. Methods for using the polypeptides and nucleic acids of the invention to enhance resistance of plants to insect predation are encompassed.

Abstract:
A method of making a filler neck housing assembly. A reinforcement bracket having a ring-shaped portion and a reinforcement flange is assembled to a housing panel that defines a recessed area inside a body outer panel. The reinforcement bracket includes door stop flanges and hinge attachment flanges to which a fuel door is attached by a hinge and hinge bracket.
