Abstract:

Abstract:
A process for preparing modified aqueous synthetic resin dispersions, comprising introducing organic diisocyanates which are liquid at room temperature into polyurethane-containing, non-sedimenting, aqueous synthetic resin dispersions, optionally in the presence of catalysts which accelerate the isocyanate polyaddition reaction and/or the dimerization of isocyanate groups and/or the carbodiimidization of isocyanate groups and/or the trimerization of isocyanate groups, mixing the organic diisocyanate with the aqueous dispersion at a temperature at which no visible foaming occurs, maintaining the temperature after addition of all the diisocyanate until at least 50% of the isocyanate groups in the added diisocyanate have undergone reaction and, if desired, completing the reaction by subsequently heating to temperatures up to 100.degree. C.These modified aqueous dispersions contain dispersed latex particles which are enveloped with polyurea formed from the diisocyanates. These modified dispersions are useful as water-resistant surface coatings and leather dressings which are abrasion resistant in the wet.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to an improved process for the biological treatment of an aqueous, waste-containing liquid by the removal of organic matter by microorganisms wherein a carrier material for said microorganisms is added to said liquid and wherein said carrier material comprises a filler-containing, hydrophilic, open-celled polymer in the form of separate individual particles, the improvement wherein said polymer particles, when saturated with water and charged with at least 70 volume-% of biomass formed in the course of the process, have an average density of slightly below the density of said liquid and thereby are suspended in the upper two-thirds of said liquid.
Abstract:
Polyaddition products containing urethane groups are produced by reacting an isocyanate group containing distillation residue with a compound having a molecular weight less than 600 containing at least two alcoholic hydroxyl groups. The distillation residue is obtained in the commercial production of tolylene diisocyanate. The distillation residue and hydroxyl compound are reacted in amounts such that the NCO/OH equivalent ratio is less than 1.5:1. The polyaddition reaction is carried out at a temperature in the range of 50.degree. to 220.degree. C. The reaction is carried out in a reaction screw extruder preferably having self-cleaning screw geometry. The polyaddition products are useful as molding compositions, reactive fillers and starting materials in the production of flame-resistant polyurethane plastics.
Abstract:

C. with complete denaturing of component (A).
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for the production of optionally foamed polyurethane plastics, particularly shaped articles, using certain denatured biomasses as reactive fillers. The fillers in question comprise biomasses based on microorganisms and the derivatives and decomposition products of microorganisms, particularly biologically purified sludges, which have been deodorized and irreversibly denatured by reaction with isocyanates and/or carbonyl compounds and compounds capable of aminoplast and/or phenoplast formation.
Abstract:
