    Abstract: A valve body circumscribes a longitudinal axis and defines a lumen along the axis. Upstream arms are coupled to the valve body, and extend radially outward from the valve body to respective arm-tips. Downstream legs are coupled to the valve body, and extend radially outward from the valve body and toward the plurality of arms. A flexible pouch extends radially outward from the valve body. The arms and the legs narrow the pouch therebetween to form a narrowed portion of the pouch, thereby defining, in an interior space of the pouch: (a) an inner portion, radially inward from the narrowed portion, and in fluid communication with the lumen, and (b) an outer portion, radially outward from the narrowed portion, and in fluid communication with the inner portion via the narrowed portion. Other embodiments are also described.

    Abstract: Apparatus is described that includes a blade assembly (20) for conditioning ex vivo pericardial tissue from which fibers extend. The apparatus includes a blade head (26) that includes a blade a may (28) and a face (30) defining gaps (32) therein. The gaps are dimensioned to facilitate protrusion therethrough of fibers into the blade head, such that movement of the blade array, with respect to the face, shears the fibers. The blade assembly is configured to be used while the tissue and the blade array are submerged in a liquid (140) with the fibers facing upward, and with the face facing downward. The apparatus is configured to provide, while the blade array is submerged in the liquid, a suction force that sucks the liquid into the blade head via the gaps, and discharges a refuse liquid through a lateral exhaust hole (24). Other embodiments are also described.

    Abstract: Prosthetic heart valves and methods of use of prosthetic heart valves may be provided. In one implementation, a prosthetic heart valve configured to transition between radially compressed and radially expanded configurations may be provided. The prosthetic heart valve may include an outer frame, an inner frame, and at least one tissue anchor extending from at least one of the frames. The prosthetic heart valve may be configured to maintain a first distance between the downstream ends of the inner and outer frames when the prosthetic heart valve is in the radially compressed configuration and a second distance between the downstream ends of the inner and outer frames when the prosthetic heart valve is in the radially expanded configuration, the first distance being greater than the second distance.

    Abstract: A prosthetic valve for implantation within a native mitral valve may be provided. The prosthetic valve may include an annular valve body, a plurality of atrial anchoring arms configured to extend radially outward from the annular valve body, and a plurality of ventricular anchoring legs configured to extend radially outward from the annular valve body. The arms may be configured to engage an atrial portion of the native mitral valve and the ventricular anchoring legs may be configured to engage a ventricular portion of the native mitral valve. The atrial anchoring arms and the ventricular anchoring legs may be positioned relative to each other such that when the atrial anchoring arms and ventricular anchoring legs engage the native mitral valve, a volume between the atrial anchoring arms and ventricular anchoring legs is configured to be substantially filled with tissue.

    Abstract: A method for assembling a prosthetic valve includes obtaining (1) a frame assembly that includes a tubular portion and ventricular legs that extend radially outward from the tubular portion, and (2) a piece of flat, flexible material shaped to define (i) a belt, and (ii) strips extending from the belt along a respective strip-axis. Each strip is folded into a pocket by folding the strip over itself, about a fold-line that is orthogonal to the strip-axis, thereby forming (i) a first strip-portion that extends from the belt to the fold-line, and (ii) a second strip-portion that extends from the fold-line back toward the belt, and stitching together the first and second strip-portions at the first edge, and the first and second strip-portions at the second edge. Each leg is slid into a pocket. The belt is wrapped around the tubular portion. Other embodiments are also described.

The prosthetic valve is transitionable from a compressed state into a partially-expanded state in which (1) a downstream surface of the support portion defines (i) an annular concave region extending radially between a concave-region inner radius and a concave-region outer radius, and (ii) an annular convex region, radially outward from the annular concave region, extending radially between a convex-region inner radius and a convex-region outer radius, and (2) the tip of each leg is disposed radially between the concave-region inner radius and the concave- region outer radius.     Abstract: A prosthetic valve is provided that includes a tubular valve body and a plurality of prosthetic leaflets disposed within a lumen of the valve body. The valve body includes struts, has an upstream end and a downstream end, and defines a lumen. The valve body is shaped so as to define a circumferential row of four-sided closed cells. Each of the four-sided closed cells is defined by some of the struts, which are shaped so as to collectively define the following four sides: a left upstream side, a right upstream side, a left downstream side, and a right downstream side. Each of the four sides of each of the four-sided closed cells is double-strutted. Other embodiments are also described.

    Abstract: Apparatus (20) for testing a prosthetic leaflet (10) includes a bar (22); a light source (24); a detector (26); an actuator (40); a gauge (28); a display (82); and circuitry (84). The leaflet is draped over the bar. The light source emits a beam of light (32). The detector detects the beam, and generates a detection-signal indicative of detection of the beam. Actuation of the actuator moves the bar with respect to the beam. The gauge measures an elevation of the bar above the beam, the elevation changing with the moving of the bar by the actuator. The circuitry is configured: (i) to receive the measured elevation from the gauge, (ii) to receive the detection-signal from the detector, and (iii) in response to the detection-signal, to drive the display to display the elevation that was measured when the detection-signal was received by the circuitry.
