    摘要: A computer network such as the internet has servers to deliver pages of data to remote users upon demand, and these pages usually contain links to further pages. The request for data is in the form of a page address sent by the user, identifying a specific page, usually by a “URL”. The server has the ability to generate context-sensitive information about delivery of this page, including current loading at the server, transmission bandwidth for the server, and size of the data requested. The server can calculate the time needed to transfer the requested data, and send this information to the client. The user can then decide the transfer method desired, based on the information sent by the server. For example, the user may want immediate transfer, or delayed transfer, or may want to abort the request. The requested page may be sent later by email. The server may send this context-sensitive information for all of the links on a page, and the user station may display the information for a link when it is clicked, in one embodiment. In this manner, receipt of information can be selective, based on user's needs and network delays.

    摘要: A data processing system, software program and method effectively and intuitively display a storage space of a data processing system to an end-user to allow the end-user to create a filing system which has an easily usable interface. In implementing this methodology, the user is allowed to simply request that all objects within an entire file system of a data processing system be placed in a logical container. A user sets the parameters for defining the desired characteristics of each of the objects stored within the logical container. Thus, a user is able to organize representations of desired objects in various storage locations without requiring extra steps by a user or excess memory. Furthermore, the contents of a logical container are dynamically updated in real-time to ensure that the filed information is current and accurate. The ability of a user to modify the containment settings and to have such modifications immediately reflected in the logical container rendered on a display device allows a user great flexibility in obtaining a desired graphical user interface.

    摘要: A system, method and computer program are provided for facilitating viewer navigation within a virtual reality three-dimensional workspace containing functional three-dimensional objects. The viewer has the capability of navigating towards such three-dimensional functional objects and interacting with them functionally in specific tasks. Such specific tasks often require a fairly narrow viewpoint to provide close viewer interaction with the object in the specific task. The present invention provides a means for facilitating the viewer's navigation along his desired or planned path after he has completed a specific task relationship with a particular selected object. Means are provided for monitoring the task specific relationship of the viewer with the object and as soon as a determination is made that the viewer has completed his task, the system automatically changes the viewpoint of the viewer from the task specific viewpoint to the optimum browsing or navigation viewpoint with respect to the viewer's current viewpoint so that the viewer can proceed further in his navigation.

In accordance with the method, system and program of the present invention, a user is provided with an automated usability test for a particular software application, wherein the automated usability test is to be activated while the particular software application is running utilizing a data processing system connected within a network. The user is prompted to perform particular tasks, in response to activation of the automated usability test while the software application is running. Data indicating the usability of the software application is gathered through user responses to the promptings. The gathered data is automatically sent to a data collection location at a remote site within the network, such that usability test data from multiple data processing systems in multiple remote user environments is gathered at a location remote from the multiple data processing systems.

The system includes a pointing device that can communicate with dissimilar types of target appliances from a position remote from those appliances and an appliance interface that makes the target appliances compatible with the pointing device.
