摘要: Mixing apparatus is described in which a plurality of chemical materials are to be incorporated in a carrier liquid, which may be a solvent, such as water, and which is quantitatively predominant, some of the chemical materials being incompatible if brought together directly, or in a wrong sequence, or which are difficult to combine, the materials being combined in the desired proportions in a cascaded arrangement of liquid filled chambers, the respective materials in the desired proportions preferably being supplied from separate sources of materials by pumps, the delivery of the carrier liquid being to a first mixing chamber to which a first chemical material is supplied, the contents of the first mixing chamber being delivered to a second mixing chamber to which another material is supplied, with provisions to prevent back flow, the fluid from the second mixing chamber being delivered to a third mixing chamber to which another chemical material may be added, with additional mixing chambers and pumps as desired to accommodate additional chemical materials, the pumps preferably being simultaneously driven from a single power source and each delivering a controlled quantity of chemical material, with shut off in the event of exhaustion of one of the materials and with shut off if a predetermined quantity of the mixture is available. The material in each mixing chamber is preferably agitated to enhance the mixing.

摘要: A coiled roll of film, which exhibits curling, is provided with longitudinal corrugations at its leading edge by a film processing apparatus, thereby providing a straight film edge well adapted for insertion into a film development machine without requiring the use of a separate leader. In the film processing apparatus, which comprises a pair of grooved, horizontally opposed platens which, upon insertion of a film therebetween, contact each other, impressing corrugation into the film, and then automatically retract to permit removal of the worked film edge from between the platens, a safety switch is provided to enable retraction of the platens, should automatic retraction not occur, to assure that the film end may be removed from the apparatus after it has been worked without being damaged.

摘要: A film development machine, having plural film treatment tanks capable of containing fluids therein for the development of a film transported therethrough by plural transport roller racks, which are small in size, capable of use in areas of limited access by permitting the film to be introduced into, and to be delivered from the machine, from the same side, and especially well adapted to develop films which are relatively small in length and width. The roller racks have a plurality of rollers forming an essentially non-linear film travel path between machine inlet and outlet. The rollers are closely spaced so that films of relatively small size can safely and reliably pass therethrough. Close roller spacing is maintained by providing rollers of different diameters, which compensate for the curvature of the path of film travel, and a gear drive system which drives nip forming pairs of rollers from alternating sides of the roller rack. The gear drive system is capable of efficiently driving the increased number of rollers. This system comprises roller drive gears which coaxially rotate each of the rollers, intermediate gears which coaxially rotate roller drive gears, and power gears which serially rotate the intermediate gears, either through direct, meshing engagement or through transfer gears which are in meshing engagement therewith. The power gears of each roller rack are operated from a common drive train, providing a completely geared roller drive system.

摘要: Economical and trouble-free operation of automatic processing machines for webs such as photographic film strips and paper is achieved.A leader tape is threaded through the processing machine. The leading end of a strip of film or paper to be processed is automatically attached to this tape for transport through the machine. Behind the attachment point of the strip to the transport tape, the tape is automatically severed, but is later automatically reattached to the trailing end of the strip. This operation is repeated for consecutive film strips or papers to be processed through the machine.In this way, an uninterrupted band of either tape or web is always in the machine. This permits simple machine construction, with supports for the web preferably only at its turnabout locations, and with powered drive preferably only at the exit from the machine. Yet, even long webs of film or paper can be automatically processed without wasteful leader tape consumption.

摘要: In a transport roller rack for automatic film developing machines, power gears supply the main flow of power to the rack, and cluster drive gears are coaxially rotated by the power gears to tap off fractions of the main power and supply these fractions to clusters of gears which in turn drive transport rollers.Coaxial gear units are used at the power tap off point. Each unit has a plurality of axially displaced portions, one constituting the power gear, another the cluster drive gear. The unit is supported by a shaft for axial rotation, but the construction of the unit is such that the shaft need not be relied upon to transmit the coaxial rotation from power gear to cluster drive gear.Such a coaxial gear unit greatly simplifies the construction and also leads to smoother operation with less risk of damage to the film.

摘要: The invention relates to the processing of photographic material such as photographic film which has a tendency to curl in roller type photographic processing equipment, without attaching a separate leader portion to the film. After removing the curl from an end portion of the film, it is processed in a roller type photographic processing equipment without curling around the transporting rollers.The invention also provides a method of making this leaderless processing possible. This is performed by deforming a portion of the photographic material so as to prevent the tendency to curl to allow positive self-leading through the roller type processing equipment. Another embodiment of the invention provides a one-piece, partially curled, photographic material wherein curl has been removed from a portion, thus making the film suitable for photographic processing equipment.Another embodiment provides an apparatus for preventing curl in a portion of photographic material.

摘要: A transport roller rack for automatic film developing machines, which employs gear driven rollers arranged in a staggered pattern, and spaced so closely together that the film follows nearly a straight path between the rollers. This renders the rack more jam-proof, and frees it of any need for stationary film guidance means, but on the other hand materially increases the number of rollers to be driven. A highly efficient gear drive is used which easily handles the increased number of rollers, and whose construction also eliminates any problem of binding between the gears driving adjacent rollers which rotate in the same direction.Each roller has a driving gear at its end. Every other pair of adjacent rollers rotating in mutually opposite directions have these driving gears at the same given ends and is mesh with each other. The intervening pairs of adjacent rollers rotating in mutually opposite directions have their driving gears at the ends opposite the said given ends, and also in mesh with each other. Thus, alternate pairs of counter-rotating rollers are driven by corresponding pairs of roller driving gears but from opposite sides of the rack.
