    摘要: A pixelized scintillation layer is taught in which high aspect ratio columns of scintillation material are formed. The columns may be sized and spaced to correspond to the sizing and spacing of an underlying sensor array, or they may be sized such that there is plurality of columns for each pixel. A method for forming the pixelized scintillation layer includes the step of forming openings such as wells, vias, or channels in a body, for example by etching a thick photoresist, ion beam etching, anodic etching, etc., and the step of filling the openings with scintillation material. A completed image sensing apparatus is also taught.

    摘要: A full-color, tunable organic light emitting diode (RCOLED) includes a high-reflection tunable membrane and a high-reflection dielectric mirror that form a resonant cavity. A white light OLED is located in the resonant cavity. The high-reflection tunable membrane is moved to alter the resonant cavity length, and/or tilted/bowed to change the finesse of the resonant cavity. In this way, color, brightness and color saturation of the emitted light from the RCOLED can be tuned. The RCOLED may also include a microlens structure to improve off-axis viewing.

    摘要: A modulator for modulating incident rays of light, the modulator comprising a plurality of equally spaced apart beam elements, each of which includes a light reflective planar surface. The elements are arranged parallel to each other with their light reflective surfaces parallel to each other. The modulator includes means for supporting the beam elements in relation to one another and means for moving the beam elements relative to one another so that the beams move between a first configuration wherein the modulator acts to reflect the incident rays of light as a plane mirror, and a second configuration wherein the modulator diffracts the incident rays of light as they are reflected therefrom. At least one of the facing surfaces of the beam elements and underlying substrate is configured to reduce any tendency to stick as they are pulled together. In operation, the light reflective surfaces of the beam elements remain parallel to each other in both the first and the second configurations and the perpendicular spacing between the reflective surfaces of adjacent beam elements is equal to m/4 times the wavelength of the incident rays of light, wherein m=an even whole number or zero when the beam elements are in the first configuration and m=an odd number when the beam elements are in the second configuration.

    摘要: An embodiment is a method and apparatus for coherent ultrasonic imaging. A receiver array has a plurality of receiver elements on a substrate to detect in-phase and quadrature components of a received signal corresponding to a transmit signal. Each of the receiver elements includes a receiver transducer and a thin-film transistor (TFT) receiver circuit. The TFT receiver circuit includes a quadrature detector having a mixer to mix a received signal with a reference signal in a composite bias signal that is distributed across the plurality of receiver elements. A transmitter is acoustically coupled to the plurality of receiver elements to generate the transmit signal through an imaging medium.

    摘要: An embodiment is a method and apparatus for ultrasonic contact imaging. A thin-film transistor (TFT) array is deposited on a substrate. A receiver having a plurality of receiver elements is deposited on the TFT array to receive a received signal. A transmitter adjacent to the receiver generates a transmit signal at an ultrasonic frequency. The transmit signal is reflected from a surface to produce a reflected signal. The received signal is a superposition of the transmit signal and the reflected signal as result of interference. The received signal is representative of differences in acoustic impedances across the surface.
