    摘要: An optical recording/reproducing head device which includes a diffraction grating for splitting a light beam radiated from a light source into at least three light beams, an objective lens for converging the three light beams on a signal recording surface of a disc-shaped optical recording medium, driving means for driving the objective lens along a direction parallel to its optical axis and within a plane perpendicular to the optical axis, a beam splitter for splitting the light beam incident via the objective lens, a first photodetector having a light-receiving surface divided by two boundary lines into four sections, second and third photodetectors arrayed in a direction parallel to one of the boundary lines on both sides of the first photodetector and fourth and fifth photodetectors arrayed in a direction perpendicular to the one of the boundary lines on both sides of the first photodetector, a splitting optical element arranged between the photodetectors and the beam splitter for splitting each of the three light beams from the diffraction grating into three more light beams, and a focusing error detection optical element arranged between the photodetectors and the beam splitter, the focusing detection optical element causing changes in the shape of a spot on the light receiving surface of the first photodetector in accordance with displacement of the disc-shaped optical recording medium in a direction perpendicular to the in-plane direction of the disc-shaped optical recording medium.

    摘要: A magneto-optical recording/reproducing method is disclosed which causes a laser beam to be emitted to a disc recording medium having information recorded thereon earlier by magnetic field modulation, the laser beam causing the disc recording medium to develop a temperature distribution such as to generate a driving force for moving a domain wall of a magnetic domain in the medium so that the magnetic domain smaller in diameter than a spot of the laser beam is expanded sufficiently to let information recorded in the domain be detected. The method comprises the steps of: recording information to the disc recording medium while rotating the medium in a first rotating direction; and reproducing the information that was recorded to the disc recording medium in the recording step while rotating the medium in a second rotating direction reverse to the first rotating direction.

    摘要: An optical pickup device that is able to record/reproduce information signals for first and second optical discs with different recording capacities. The optical pickup device includes an objective lens for converging first and second light beams of different wavelengths on the signal recording layers of first and second optical discs having different substrate thicknesses, a beam splitter having the same transmittance to the first and second light beams and configured for separating the first and second light beams radiated by first and second light sources to fall on the beam splitter via a first objective lens or a second objective lens, and a hologram element arranged between the objective lens and the beam splitter for limiting the aperture of one of the first light beam and the second light beam and for correcting the spherical aberration caused by difference in the disc substrate thickness of the first and second optical discs. This configuration enables various optical elements, such as objective lens or beam splitter, to be used in common for the optical disc of different recording capacities.

    摘要: A recording and/or reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped optical recording medium includes a rotation drive mechanism, a head device, a discriminating device, a first processing device, a second processing device, a third processing device and a controller. A disc-shaped optical recording medium is loaded on the rotation drive mechanism and is run in rotation at a constant linear velocity. The head device includes a laser light source and a photodetector unit and is movable in the radial direction of the disc-shaped optical recording medium for recording/reproducing information signal on or from the disc-shaped optical recording medium. The discriminating device discriminates the type of the disc-shaped optical recording medium loaded on the rotation driving device. The photodetector unit includes first, second and third photodetectors. The first processing circuit takes a difference between output signals from the first photodetector and those from the second photodetector. The second processing circuit takes a sum of output signals from the first photodetector and those from the second photodetector. The third photodetector generates an error signal based on an output signal from the third photodetector. The controller selectively changes over an output from the first processing circuit to an output from the second processing circuit and vice versa based on a detection output from the discriminating device to produce reproducing signals.
