This invention relates to improved phytases, preferably phytases of an increased thermostability, and a process of producing them. In particular, stabilizing amino acid mutations are introduced into a homologous protein, or the active site of a phytase is replaced in part or in toto. The corresponding DNA sequences and methods of preparing them are also disclosed, as are methods of producing the improved phytases, and the use thereof. Specific variants of Aspergillus fumigatus phytase and of consensus phytases are disclosed.

A method of checking the volume of containers is disclosed according to which a gas is fed into a volume which is correlated to the volume of the respective container and a signal which depends from the fed amount of gas is evaluated as signal indicative of the volume of the container. In order to substantially reduce the time of the measuring cycle at such a method a gas is fed to the volume which is correlated to the volume of the container at a controlled flow, i.e. the mass flow of the gas per unit of time is pre-set in a controlled manner such that it is possible to drastically reduce the time spans during which it is necessary to wait due to transient processes and a chamber which must be loaded in advance will become superfluous.

A method and apparatus for leak testing a hollow body wherein the hollow body is placed in a test chamber. The hollow body is exposed to one of a positive or negative differential pressure between an internal pressure of the hollow body and a pressure in the test chamber. A pressure prevailing in the test chamber is tapped off from the test chamber at two points in time, with a signal being generated of a pressure differential between the values of the prevailing pressure in the test chamber at the two points of time. The tightness or change in volume of the hollow body is determined in dependence upon the generated pressure differential signal.

Method and system for x-ray detection of flaws in containers or their contents wherein containers are conveyed on a circular path around a central axis upon which an x-ray source is situated below the plane of the base of the containers. The x-ray source emits x-ray radiation obliquely upwards through the containers to a plurality of imaging x-ray detectors. Analysis of the images provided by these x-ray detectors determines the presence of a flaw in a container or its contents and is used to command a rejection mechanism to reject the container in question.
