摘要: A system and method for leak testing a plurality of hermetic electronic packages of the type that have an internal chamber that is isolated from ambient conditions by a seal structure is advantageously designed to be able to calculate the leak rate of each individual device in a manner that is independent of structural manufacturing variances that typically exist within a sampling of such devices. The method preferably involves positioning a plurality of the hermetic electronic packages within a test area, and then stimulating the hermetic electronic packages with a modulated input of energy, such as by varying the ambient pressure about the devices. A property such as the physical position of one portion of a lid of each of the hermetic electronic packages is then sensed. The sensed property is one that is known to change as a first function of the modulated input of energy and also as a second function of pressure conditions within the hermetically sealed internal chamber. The first and second functions are linearly independent of each other. By comparing the stimulation of the devices to the sensed property and by discriminating using the two known functions a leak rate is determined for each individual device that is substantially independent of variances, such as differences in lid thickness that may exist between the different devices. Accordingly, an accurate determination of leak rate may be made with a minimum of calibration.

摘要: Defects in an underground channel, such as a sewer, are detected by an infrared scanning device (preferably an infrared video camera) moved internally along the channel. The scanning device senses temperature deviations which mark defects in the channel, as, for example, deviations due to the inflow of cool extraneous water into a sewer. The scanning device is in communication with an above-ground central unit which processes the scanning device output and displays and/or records thermal representations of the defect. The central unit also monitors the location (distance travelled) of the scanning device so that the locations of defects may be determined.

摘要: Chromogenic acridinone enzyme substrate compounds comprising 7-hydroxy-9H-acridin-2-one chromogens derivatized at the 7-hydroxy-position with an enzymatically-cleavable group and disubstituted at the 9-position with alkyl or aryl groups, which can be the same or different, preferably lower alkyl or phenyl, respectively, or together form a cyclohexa-2,5-diene-4-one residue or a 4-hydroxycycloxhexyl residue, and 7-hydroxy-1,3-dihalo-9,9-dimethyl-acridin-2-one intermediates useful for the preparation of the novel chromogenic acridinone enzyme substrate compounds and methods therefor. The enzymatically-cleavable group is a radical of a compound Y-OH comprising an enzyme-specific moiety which is capable of being cleaved by a specific enzyme wherein a deprotonated form of the chromogen is liberated having an absorbance maximum in basic solution which is substantially greater than the absorbance maximum of the chromogenic acridinone enzyme substrate compound to provide a distinct change in absorbance which can be accurately measured and correlated to the amount of enzyme present in a liquid test sample.

摘要: A system for the internal inspection of pipelines for carrying oil or gas, subsea or overland, includes an apparatus carrier, pressure-driven driven or self-propelled, carrying non-destructive examination apparatus moved through the pipeline to inspect the safety conditions of the pipeline wall material and surfaces. During its progression the carrier gradually deposits one or more expendable, thin optical fibers inside the pipeline. The fibers connect the carrier with a control station, situated outside the pipeline at the carrier launching end of the pipeline, through electro-optical signal converters installed in the carrier and in the control station. The system permits continuous on-line communication with the carrier over very long distances (1) for generating instant visual displays and permanent records of the step-by-step results of the inspection, (2) for controlling the functions of the non-destructive examination apparatus, and (3) for controlling the rate of progression of the carrier. Upon completion of the inspection the optical fibers are discarded inside the pipeline for later removal, if necessary, by a routine in-service cleaning operation.

摘要: A pipeline closing head, for use in testing a pipeline after it has been laid on a submerged bed by subjecting the pipeline temporarily to internal pressure through the use of filling and emptying balls, is constituted by a hollow cylindrical body having a crowned closing element at one end and containing, at its other end, an air tight chamber housing the filling and emptying balls. Ducts and control valves through which fluid is supplied to said chamber to activate the filling and emptying balls and supply fluid pressure to the interior of the pipeline are housed within the cylindrical body so that they do not overhang the closing head, which may slide along a conventional ramp for the pipeline.

摘要: A method and apparatus for leak testing a hollow body wherein the hollow body is placed in a test chamber. The hollow body is exposed to one of a positive or negative differential pressure between an internal pressure of the hollow body and a pressure in the test chamber. A pressure prevailing in the test chamber is tapped off from the test chamber at two points in time, with a signal being generated of a pressure differential between the values of the prevailing pressure in the test chamber at the two points of time. The tightness or change in volume of the hollow body is determined in dependence upon the generated pressure differential signal.
